Stange as it may seem, New Zealand is further away than Europe and more expensive to get to from here. A flight to London from Johannesburg is cheaper than a flight to Kenya or Nigeria and even sometimes Maputo (unless you can get a deal).
Tiffendell in SA is okay- but hardly compares to the Alps. its mostly used for training. its not the same kind of holiday. Most people I know ski in Europe and it is quite a pricy holiday, but i don't have kids yet, so am enjoying while i can.
In Durban we don't really have an Autumn or Spring. Summer lasts well into April- at the moment it is about 33 degreesC plus a humidity factor of 8degreesC. the humidity in summer in Durban can be 90%. I love it, but i have lived here many years. the humidity is great for my eyes though...
Durban gets down to about 9degreesC in winter (at night- and then only once or twice a year).
I don't even own a heater- but the aircon runs 4/5 months a year in the bedroom.
