Hi Sarah...
I can understand how frustrated you are - and just to check something - what contact lenses have you tried? Until you have fully gone through all possibilities, you cannot really say contacts don't work. And just to put the record straight Gareth, sclerals ARE contact lenses - just a heck of a lot bigger than all the others!
The other interesting thing here is this question of Dupuytren's Contracture - my grandfather actually had that. It IS an inherited feature and may well be connected in some way - the genetic studies of keratoconus are still in their early stages. So yes, it would be very interesting if any other KC's had this condition in their families.

I'm another West Midlander, based in Birmingham and actually have an appointment for a Scleral lens fitting at City Hospital Eye Department (former Eye hospital moved to the old Dudley Road Hospital site). I was diagnosed around 10 years ago when i had a graft on one eye but was never really able to get on with my RGP lenses but my sight has now reached a point where I need to use lenses rather than the spectacles i am currently wearing.
Does anyone know anything about Sclerals in general as I am a bit devoid on facts relating to these and what is the usual form factor for these nowdays, Mini-scleral or full sized?
Thanks,
Richard

hi fellow midlanders i live in market harborough, leicestershire, i have been diagnosed 25 years now and have gone from wearing hard to rgp lenses over the years. on a good day i can wear my lenses for 15 hours which my opto says is fine and brilliant. on a bad day i tend to just wear my right lenses and give the left one a rest.
at the moment i am in the process of being refitted with a new shape lens for my right eye to allow more movement of the lens. the first one was left on the opticians floor, the second one i could only wear for a couple of hours and the pain became unbearable, third fit not too bad but could lift my head up, so now waiting for lens 4 to be made. as my opto says fitting KC is an art not a science.
today a good lens day, hope your all having good one as well
