I am here to lend support and help and give advice

It would be interesting to know what would you recommend to your KC patient/customer as the maximum wearing time for lenses in a 24 hour day Lynn?

Steven,

My optom recomended for me 8 hours but I explained that is not enough in a working day, especially if I have problems with my right eye. We agreed 12 hours as a max which you will see from my post I exceed and I find out next week if my KC has been stable for a full 3 years which I think it has.

How are you finding it taking the suplements?
Gareth

It may not be the hours in one day but how many hours you clock up each week (as yet there is no universal rule of thumb because Kcers are so diverse, may be having a rest day each week is fine for some people, if the hours in the week can not be reduced for one reason or another and things are going great generally for them. Keeping to a six month/one year check up as routine is a good thing, not just for those who wear contacts but everyone with KC, even if they wear no correction at all or what ever treatment they have had.

Steven

What I would say is that no-one could advise wearing time without knowing the patient history and looking at the eyes on a slit lamp while wearing lenses.

Every single case of KC is different..as is every single contact lens wearer, KC or not. It depends on such things as severity of KC, type of contact lens, pre or post graft, corneal thickness.... I could go on and on.

Some people can wear lenses for only 30 minutes.. some can easily achieve 12 hours. That is the reality of KC.

Lynn
