Difficulty getting eye drops.

Postby Jack Maitland » Wed 11 Apr 2007 3:23 pm

Yes, they are preservative free and until yesterday I'd been taking the two types 6 times a day. I was out of the country for the 10 days prior to Easter and as they ran out on Tuesday went to GP to get prescription. Discovered that the prescription was for the steroids only and the dosage was reduced to 4 times per day. Problem was that pharmacies don't seem to stock dexamethasone and therefore would have to order it in leaving me without any for 24 hours. Was in a bit of a panic about that as the doctor at the hospital had told me that I couldn't just stop taking them. Eventually managed to speak to another doctor at the hospital who was surprised that I was still taking them so frequently at 6 weeks post-op. Anyway he assured me that missing a day wasn't a problem and I am now back onto 4 times a day and have appointment on Friday.

It's the same up here. they don't carry stocks of dexamethasone minims and have to order them from the distributor. I once had an emergency and the pharmacist spent time phoning round all the local pharmacies until he sourced twenty minims that he could let me have. by the next day the rest of my prescription was ready.
