Hi DPlees
Iam also self employed. I had the operation on a Thursday and returned to work the following Monday
The light sensitivity certainly lasted for a couple of months and at one point I returned to the clinic as the pain was becoming worse and was prescribed some drops which seem to help.
If you can I would get some sunglasses which wrap around the eyes as this seemed to help.
Now 6 months after the operation everything is fine and the vision has now settled down.
Before the operation my prescription was
-1.25 -4.75 x 95
and now it is -0.75 -3.00 x 102
This means I can now wear glasses and the vision is ok
Good luck with your operation
Mark

Can Intacs be felt
Is it possible to feel the intacs once the eyes have healed? Do you get sore eyelids? If you squeeze you eyes shut are you aware of them at all?
How long does the light sensitivity last for? Will I be able to look at a computer screen soon after the treatment?
Thanks

dplees,
Not had intacs, but had grafts and I recomend to anyone regardless of eye surgery to take regular breaks from the pc to prevent the eyes drying out. As you concentrate on anything, your blink rate goes down so tears not being flushed across the eye.
The HSE recomend regular short breaks rather than one long break infrequently. I stop every 30 minutes for a minute or two and it has made my eyes much more comfortable.
You probably will have sore eyelids from where they are held apart, just like in a graft, but this usually goes within a week or two.
Light sensitivity for anyone wo has had eye surgery can last for a couple of weeks to a couple of months or more.
As Mark says, get a good pair of sunglasses, it may be more appropriate to get them from you optician, then you can get the best tint that suits your needs. Turn the brightness and contrast down on your monitor will help too.

Eye is settling down nicely following all the inflammation and infection, off the antibiotic drops now.
The worst part about the eye is the stitches catching on the eyelid, feels like a combination of eyelashes and grit in the eye. Have developed light sensitivity, but am managing that with my shades well.
Have noticed lately that I can see the edges of the INTACS from time to time as my eye focuses, also halos have started to appear around light sources at night
Next follow up appointment 23 March when I'm due to have the stitches removed.

Went for follow up appt last Friday at St Paul's.
Had the stitch removed, instant relief from the uncomfortable grittiness. Went for refraction and issued with the following prescription
Can't find a pre-op prescription to compare with but know that the Va is the best that I've had for many years. It now means that I'll be able to see much better (including OH
)
Since having the stitch removed, the light sensitivity has eased to pre-op levels, still have halos at night but not as bad as they were before. Now off the pred forte drops and all appears well.

Bummer!!!!
Went to collect glasses, put them on and can't see through the right lens as it's completely blurred. Left eye fine.
Just waiting for the optician's to sort out between themselves and St Paul's as to where I am to be retested. Glasses were made to correct prescription, but they think that the vision may have changed in the week since I had the stitch out.

NICE consultation completed.
My normal optician (specsavers) will not retest my vision unless they have the authority from St Paul's to do so. Phone number for Sister at St Pauls is an answerphone dso have emailed them aking if they will do the retest or give the authority to the optician to do the retest.
If it comes to it I'll nip down to Vision Express and get it done there.
