Kerasoft fitting update

Today wore the Kerasoft without RGP's today.

The lenses settled a whole lot quicker regarding comfort and the portion of my corena coverd by the soft lens but not the RGP had no irritation from the off.

I am noticing I am having to massage out air bubbles which I think is a combination of still getting used to putting in a larger lens and the shape of my KC eyes. Getting them in and out is a whole load easier now after a couple of days and has made getting the RGP's in a lot easier. I suppose if I can do a large lens then a tidler is childs play

What I did notice yesterday after wearing the lenses for about 3 - 4 hours or so although my vison is blurred because fo the prescription issue things started to go cloudy so I took the lenses out. Lights had halos where I could see all colours of the rainbow, quite colourful, but in all the years I have had KC I have never had halos! I put this down to the fact I had been wearing RGPs for 11 hours followed by 3 hours of the Kerasoft.

Eye were comfortable this morning with no fogging. So to allow the eyes to hydrate further I used my Systane a few times this morning and did not put the Kerasoft in until I had been up a couple of hours.

Wore lenses today for between 4 - 5 hours and noticed the same fogging so again took lenses out and I am seeing the same halos!

Fortunatly I have aids at work to allow me to continue partially sighted and I had a lift organised too and from work.

I know I suffer poor tear production regarding the make up of them. I have had my RGP's do a similar thing about 18 months ago when I started to have RGP problems, but never got the halos. Since discovering the tear problem about a year ago and over coming that I have not encounterd this until now.

This leads me to think that the Kerasoft are drying out and taking moisture out of my own corneas. Should this be the case, then Kerasoft even for a short term use to allow me to go racing may need a rethink.

Has enyone else experienced this?

Plus can any of the optoms that post here give me their take on what I am experiencing?

Not going to use the soft lenses tomorrow when I am at work, stick to the RGP's and then perhaps just so I can drive to and from work so little lens wear. That is the aim.

Just an update, three hours on and the halos have just gone, back to just see the starburst I normally see.

Conclusion, Kerasoft is doing something to my cornea, which hopefully a professional here might be able to explain. I suspect it is down to my poor tear production and the amount of the eye that a Kerasoft lens covers.

Not sure if this is of any help what so ever. During the 6 months when I wore Kerasofts, I got the "steaming up". The reason for this was due to the shape of my cone. What appeared to be happening was that the central parts of the Kerasoft were not sitting correctly over the cornea due to the uneveness.....so what would happen is that some parts of the cornea were staying hydrated and others were more tighter...(as in the lens was tight) Changing to the next size up or down , tighter fit or looser fit made the vision go

I wore Kerasofts for about 4 yrs before I got my eyes grafted. I used to fill them with Opti Tears before I put them into the eye which pretty much eliminated air bubbles and they felt nice going in! The vision compared to RPG - which I found excrutiatingly painful - was not as good but kept me legal to drive and able to have a normal life within reason. I think the vision isn't quite as good because they are not a hard lens and take the shape of the eye more. It often took several visits to get the right lens, there are different fittings a to c if I remember rightly with regard to the steepness. Once we got it right - my optomotrist had the patience of a saint! - it was worth it. Good luck. Tubs

I'm in a similar position to you Gareth.

Wore ill-fitting RGPs for 3 years and was then told by my Hospital last summer to get by with just wearing specs. After reading about Kerasoft on this forum, I finally had a chance to persuade them to take a chance and let me try a set.

I've been wearing the 'trial' pair now on and off for a couple of weeks. Maximum wear time has been about 9 hours although I had to give my eyes a rest the next day as I was worried about possible drying out of the eyes. I also struggle with a low tear count.

Vision wise, the lenses are far better than the glasses (no surprises there) and almost as good as RGPs. I'm yet to receive the final pair, but when tested at time of fitting the lenses were giving me 6/6 in both eyes and dramatically reduced the double vision/halo affect in my right eye.

The right lens is extremely comfortable, this is a bit of a surprise since this is the most advanced KC and could only manage a 1 or 2 hours with RGPs.

The left is not so good. I find it excruciating for the first 5-10 mins after putting the lenses in and have no idea why? - the lens also is far less comfortable then the right and no amount of drops or massaging of the lens seems to reduce the discomfort. With RGPs the left rarely gave cause for concern.

I also get the faint fogging in the left after an hour or so.

I was also taken back by size of the lens and find it a real struggle to fit and remove. I was shown how to remove the lens by pinching it off the eye but this just does not work for me so have reverted back to pushing my eyelids together and popping the lens off.

Couple of questions that have baffled me;

How do you know if the lens is inside out?

How do you prevent bubbles from being trapped in the lens during insertion? - Could this be the cause of the pain immedatly after inserting the left contact?

How do you remove your Kerasoft lenses?
