update. I was seen by a contact lens specialist at the hospital and I had a follow up appointment at his shop. I was fitted with contacts and the attainable vision was 6/6 in both eyes. The clarity was simply brilliant and I now await the personal lenses to be made for me.
A great result!
Can I wear contact lenses?

Excellent news!
And, just to blow our own trumpet for once, shows the value of asking questions on this forum.
Wishing you great success with your new lenses.

Re: Can I wear contact lenses?
Well, I had the lens fitted and the left lens is perfect, comfortable and excellent vision. The right lens is a different story.
1. Not as comfortable as the left, but this can probably be improved upon?
2. Vision is blurry or misty. I had noticed this to a lesser degree with glasses on. It usually improved a few hours after getting up though, but not so with the contact lens.
3. I have only just noticed that if I look at a light source, such a room light or torch, I can see a rainbow halo around the light. This differs from astigmatism I think. I can also see this rainbow when looking through the glasses, but i never noticed it before. No halo on left eye, very clear.
Maybe cataracts? I was told they were forming, but not considered a problem yet.
I'm back to see the specialist in two weeks. So thrilled with left eye vision and clarity though!
