I am serious. I do wear outragerously broad brimmed hats. And I do it with some style.
I am sorry to har that they won't let you back to work yet. They kept me off for six weeks after my surgery; they just did not seem to udnerstand the basic tenets of negotiation: they'd open with an offer, and I'd suggest a shorter time and they would go back to their original position.

Thanks for the support and comments.
I can't really picture myself in a hat , but I'll have to give it a go.
I could go for a totally new image or even an Extreme Makeover.
I'm sure most of my colleagues think having a graft is like having lasik, "I can't believe you're still having problems"(3 months post op!). So I just need the face lift, the boob job and the tummy tuck!

I joke about wearing hats, and for the longest time I dismissed the idea. The truth is that I thought they were for another age, and I did not enjoy wearing them at all.
Then I thought, 'this is importand'. So I started to be a little aggrressive about wearing hats and quickly became established in the community of which I am part and in the wider circle of family and friends as a slight eccentric who just wore broad brimmed hats.
When people made jokes at my expense (which they did and do) I'd retort that I was sorry they felt so envyous.
Those who know you will stop noticing. Those who do not may make a joke, once. But your eyes will be shaded from the sun, and that is well worth the effort. I'd far rather that I protected my eyes than give in to idiots and buffoons who have no understanding of what they say and no idea of what they would do if they had to live with the punishment that our eyes take from bright light.

I've been having some dodgy eye days recently, since it's turned sunny.
I'm sur ethe light must be part of it, but I think the dreaded hay fever season is starting again too.
I've even sneezed a few times.
Could that be part of your problem, Val? - and no, I never knew I had hay fever till I started wearing sclerals.
I've got a wide black leather "Oz Hat" - like the down-under version of a cowboy hat - which is good for shading the eyes, plus the wrap-around polarising sun glasses. THe hat has been seen at Ascot races, amongst other places - and knocks around the stable yard, slobbered on by young Chubs when I bed down to brush his legs, crammed into the locker with the grooming kit, etc, when I change it for a riding helmet. Now all I need is a silk cap cover (like jockey's racing colours) to go over my helmet with a big wide brim!
SOrted.
Well, it owuld be if i'd got Chubs sorted out from being "laddish" - I'm limped around with a walking stick and lots of grimaces today after coming a rather eye-catching tumble yesterday. If one thinks the waiting times at Moorfields are awful, then over 5 hours at Whipps Cross casualty (waiting for someone to tell me there was nothing broken, to keep moving and go home) was not much fun either.
One discovery, though - if you want to get some attention in an A&E, try lying face down on the floor - that was what I eventually did, as the least painful position to be in. Brought the paramedics within five minutes!
