I've used Boston for 30 odd years.
Moorfields have always prescribed it. Do they prescribe other solutions?
What contact lens solutions do you use?

I wear an RGP sclerals, and piggy-back over a daily-disposable soft lens in my right eye.
I use Boston/B&L wetting solutions for the sclerals.
Boston and Bausch & Lombe (sp?) are the same stuff, for anyone who doesn't know; just a different name on the bottle.)
That's the bigger, blue bottles.
I use Amidose saline. DOn't like it much - it tends to be a bit stingy. Vastly preferable for filling up the scleral before inserting was the old K-Lens, but alas!!!!! they don't make it any more.
I clean the sclerals with washing up liquid.
When I'm piggy backing, I clean the scleral as per normal and wash all the washing up liquid away, then wet using the wetting solution, rinse the excess wetting solution away, give a good squirt of Amidose over both sides, then find the right way round to put it in (easier said than done), fish the soft lens out of its pot and put it inside, then put a blob of celluvisc inside the combination, and put them both in together.
Have tried putting soft lens inside scleral and filling with saline in normal way for sclerals, but the soft lens tends to float about it in and not go in straight (as it were).
I did in the past once have something called Total, which I have vague memories of not being impressed with, and Miraflow. The latter worked OK, once I'd got used to the new technique (of not rinsing the excess away too hard, or I washed the lot off and the lens wasn't wetting, so had to start all over again) but wasn't hooked. FOr one thing, I don't particularly like something with its volatile solvent right under my asthmatic nose first thing in the morning.
I did once try Bost (/B&L) cleaner - the smaller bottles with the dark-maroon caps). Never again! It ponged to high heaven, must have taken a gallon of water to rinse it off the lenses - rathe rthan leave them ponging of the stuff, and I wasn't having *that* stuffed in my eyes - and my hands smelled of it for the rest of the morning.
In the past used to use Contactasol, and my very own saline, made up for me by a friend in a lab who could put a batch in with other lab stuff to be sterilised. much better than Amidose (I think he made it a slightly different strength which was closer to my natural tear salinity, so it didn't have that slight sting) but he changed jobs and moved away.

Am i the only one who uses a solution called Regard?
its quite interesting that its uv sensitive and the case for the contacts does not give out uv light.
its pretty good and makes my contacts feel very comfortable.

my optometrist - ask urs and see if they can get u some! its pretty good, preservant free etc
ull need the correct case though to go with it
i got some technical literature on it if you wanna see - tell me and ill scan it in and post it up.
it may not be suitable for ur lenses - im not sure - cos i wear reasonably soft lenses (which are comfortable but arent to effective lol)
