The whole thing about irrigating the eye before you handle the lens seems to be critical. Was this something you learned for yourself or were you told by the fitter.

Andrew

This was something I figured out myself. Without irrigating the eye with artificial tears or saline (i usually use artificial tears, aquify) I found it very hard to take the lens out as I would be fairly tight. I would use enough artificial tears so that when i blink the lens would slightly move also. Then I would take the lens out as normal but would make it a lot more easier. The thing is i never used my eyelids to take out the lens, I have always used mythumb and forefinger to lift the lens from my eye, takes me 2 secs on a good day. I can take it out without irrigating but if it is too tight then my eye would be in slight pain after and I would be rubbing it for the next 2 minutes.

Ah the post lens removal eye rub .. the best eye rub of the day :D

Now that I wear specs I still rub my eyes, but never with that sense of satisfacied relief I used to find in the one just after my lenses came out!

Having been wearing lenses for about a month now, i find the best way for me to get them out is to put a drop of systane or blink in, the lenses then come straight out.

Struggled to get them out before i realised that.

Even with poor sight, if my nose is near the towel, I can see the lens.

Same if it is dislodged, the blue stands out.

Same here. I have a blue tinted lens for my left eye (bLue:Left) and a gReen for my Right eye.
Sounds a bit strange, but it really helps to tell which is which when both lenses are out.

I was the very same! You must have the same considerate optometrist as I used to see. Oh yes, I think I already knew that you did!

By the way, I think I'd mention to Bernie, next time you see her, that your lenses had developed a tendency to pop out by themselves. She may be able to adjust the fit.

Please pass on my kind regards. I owe Bernie, Angie and the others a debt that I think they are unlikely to appreciate. to them the help they gave me was a job, to me it was the precious gift of sight.

yes I use the saline & pinch technique for RGP's too.
Good idea about having a different coloured towel to the lens

I don't think Angie is at work just now. She seems to have injured her leg. Bernie is the other Optometrist whom I used to see, go them muddled: put it down to an "over 50's" moment, and then be grateful that you have a long time before you have to worrk about them!
