Why does the pupil need to be dilated? I look like something out of the X-Files with one small pupil and one large one!

Craig

Its alleged that by dilating the pupil. the pressure in the cornea SLIGHTLY increases and aids in the extraction of the fluid from the eye......but I woudl question just how effective that is!...but thats me!

Jay, do you just simply put the drop in the bottom eyelid then close your eye?

Part of the instruction leaflet says "to reduce absorption into the blood stream, the 'lacrimal sac' should be compressed by applying pressure just beneath the punctum of the eye"

This is gobbledegook to me!!

Also, the ointment says to put it into the conjunctival sac.

Is this your bottom eyelid??!!

Yes, ointment on the bottom of the lid, and with regards to the drop, you basically pinch the nose side of the eye ever so slightly...and yes....I lift the lower lid and apply the drop then close my eye

Andrew - Yes I just realised....as the relief would occur when the water is sucked out...so i will shut up as I said :-)..i think sumtimes my fingers type faster then the brain!!

I got my eye drops out and found this on one of the bits of paper that I had never lookd at before

Pull lower lid down gently to expose the conjunctival sac, creating a pocket. Hold eyedropper 1/4 - 1/8 inch above the conjunctival sac (pocket).

Your instincts serve you well

I hope the ointment is easier to use than the antibiotic one my GP (incorrectly) prescribed last week. It seemed to stick to the nozzle and was hell to get to break off and go into the eyelid. This was even with someone else doing it for me!

Craig

It took me ages to learn how to put ointment into my eye.

The solution I came up with was this.

Pull down the lower lid to reveal the conjunctival sac (thank you for this, I shall go about trying to find ways to drop this into conversations)

Squeeze the tube so that the ointment extrudes into the aforementioned sac.

Let go of the lower eyelid so that the sac closes and the ointment is trapped.

Withdraw tube as eye closes

Give it a go and let me know if it works for you, too
