Laura,
I have noticed a problem with bright light recently too. It's something I've never had a problem with before, but recently I have found it extremely painful to look at bright lights. I find the sun shining through the curtains particularly bad, and also the sun shining through a window into a dark room.
The pain is above the eye, and into the temple - is yours the same?
I wear photo chromic sunglasses, which do help - especially when driving.

Hello there
I was diagnosed with KC about 12 month's ago, and went to get some new glasses about 2 weeks ago, since then Ive been referred back to the specialist, who is now referring me to a consultant.
The specialists has told me that he think my left eye, in his opinion has advanced to far for contact lenses, and as explained about a cornea transplant.
Its hard to explain how I feel, or what I see through my left eye, Like some of the other KC suffers, I too cant stand bright light, it causes my eyes to water, even with my eyes closed.
Im not looking forward to having my eyes poked and tested, to determine the stage of my KC; can anyone tell me what I can expect? now that Ive been referred to the consultant.
Can anybody relate to this at all?

Laura asked:
I have a little problem at the mo. I seem to be having a really bad time with the sun. I find I am having to wear sunglasses in the slightest bit of light. When I leave work I can't see a
thing after being in the artificial light all day. And I had a bad experience at the zoo the other week, when I came out of a
fairly dark enclosure and the sun really hurt my eyes even when I had closed them. Is it usual to be so sensitive to the sun?
No, it's not entirely "usual" but you're not the only one - I
have that too. I can be walking along the street even in rather gloomy overcast days with wet pavements after rain and thick
wrap-around shades on, collecting all sorts of funny looks and
silly remarks.
It is *worse* if I'm run-down, ill (got a cold, etc), tired, hung over (not that I evr get hangovers, you understand!!), jet
lagged, or had my lenses in too long the previous day. But even in otherwise fine health, bright light is always a problem,
particularly the low-level sun in Spring. They say it is all
due to light scattering from an irregular cornea, but I do
wonder whether I have some other problem as well, because there
are many people with KC who are less badly affected.

Hi all of the bright lights!
My son dale doesnt do so well with sudden low bright light.
We've taken his oldest pair of specs to his opticians and they've dipped them to produce instant presciption shades to any shade of darkenss that you need, in less than 24hours.
Dale's off to Majorca to sunbathe in his dark dark shades!!

To Andy on the trail of DLA
dear Andy,
My son (KC) is registered as Partially Sighted.
I dont know if there's actually a set level or a form, but the consultant asked me if he could register him and I said yes, and although it felt upsetting to have a label like that, it does help when you want services to realise you really do need support.
We get DLA , although Dale has lots of major problems as well as sight, there are things worth knowing...
The DLA trick is to describe your very worst day and not brag about what you CAN do !! Worth a try - we treat the forms as an evening hobby!!

I do work BUT I am worried that my driving license might be taken away which is part of my job,But its my job (brake dust/exhaust rust/dust) which is a major contributor to my bad eye days, and cars is all I know, although my consultant is happy for me to drive,it still worries me.My new contacts are as black as those windows you see on boy racers cars....
