Oh darn sweet i thjought if somebody posted after you it would give you an opportunity to post back. Otherwise you end up having to reply to your own posts and John will notice that you are up to something (as it is, I don't think he has realized).

What is it that Flanders says? "Okellie dokelley"

Then the point I was making is a good one :D Two eyes are better than one, but one is better than none at all.

I wear one lens at a time, alternatively.
I've been doing this for so long I can't really remember getting used to it, but I presume I did.
The one problem with it is tht, with only one eye working well at any time, it is vry hard to judge distances.
I cannot play tennis to save my life, for example. Not that I could ever play tennis at all._

For normall working and living it is no longer a proble.
I wouldn't dream of ever trying to drive with only one lens in. That's becuase of the problems of judging distances - I just wouldn't be able to judge accurately how far I was from the car (or whatever) in front, and that could be extremely dangerous.

HHmm i guess it is what you get used to. I drive with only one lens in but then i guess i am just used to only having vision in one eye so can judge things ok. I suppose though that to someone who uses both eyes it would be odd to suddenly cover one and then get in a car, so no i wouldn't suggest doing that if you reply on both!!

Mark

I had worn one lens for about 15 months post hydrops, and then continued to a graft, whereby now I wear glasses which are only corrected in one lens.

I did find it odd initially; but this only lasted for a few days whilst my brain registered what happened!

This is where I found a driving school and the Advanced Motorists being helpful. My observation skills were enhanced, by this I mean i learnt to look out for certain road markers to help judge distances. When approaching junctions, there are ceratin signs a certain distance away from the juction. If the sign was missing, usually because someone had driven into it, I learnt how to tell if a sign had been there.

Playing tennis requires being precise, driving a car you actually have a bit of leeway. I can not judg how far away from a car i am, but I can see when it passes a mark on the road and count two seconds. this is a general rule of thumb that works at all speeds to ensure you are a safe distance from the car infront. When pulling up behind a car, as long as I can see the tarmac of the road touching the rear tyres, I know I am a safe distance from the stationary car and room for pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely.

Many passengers have remarked since KC part 2 arrived, my eyes are constantly moving am I OK? I am just being far more observent to a level I should have been before and picking up all the clues most drivers ignore.

Learning and developing the skills and senses we have left can really make up for our loss and sometimes exceed the sensery perceptions we had before.

Hhmm well i probably don't pay enough attention then to the road signs as i should and maybe some advanced driving lessons would be a good idea. It does worry me now but if i retook my driving test tomorrow i am sure that i would fail, as you can pick up on so many bad habits!! My eyesight when it is ok hasn't really changed but i am guessing that only driving with vision in one eye would either make you more aware or indeed throw you off completely! Am not too sure which one i fall into! LOL!

I think it has made me more aware, because I have to make a point of looking and can't just get away with a glance.

There are now wideangle mirrors that clip over the rear view mirror to aid reduction in blidspots to the left and right.

These are good, because I am now in a postion with the magical moving lens, that if I drive with one eye, it is always the left.

With this mirror I can see what is coming on the right by looking in the mirror to my left. Flicking my left eye between this and the door mirror I can judge the relative speed of the approaching car behind.

Cue Einstein and Steven Hawkin to explain theory of relativety.
