Andrew

I would seriously consider a DALK....especially if you have had a PK already?..My logic is that if you are having two PKs than then you expose yourself to a nasty situation of having a rejection in both eyes!........

DALK in one eye and PK in the other? Well, I had been thinking that this would be a good option, but with all the posts about a long healing time for DALK, and the prospect of less good sight post recovery than might be anticipated if a second PK were undertaken I am a little unsure.

I think I'll ask my surgeon to tell me what the pitfalls are. He was right up front in discussing the PK he did in 2003, so I am fairly confident he'd be as frank in talking about DALK.

I can see the sense of avoiding a double reection.

Andrew

I think this idea of DALK taking longer to recover, occurs in the first 3-5 months.....so when comparing against the recovery of PK, its negligible.

Thanks Jay. I had thought that the posts were suggesting a far longer recovery time.

I'm emboldened to ask my surgeon some straight questions.

John, where do you stand now with the possibility of a DALK procedure in your as yet ungrafted eye?

Andrew,

That's why I'm heading for a new consultant on Friday :-) He has carried out "many" DALKs apparently, so the idea is for him to advise me whether it's a DALK or another PK... or if we try and improve the vision in the already PK-grafted eye.

I suspect though that with my history of 8 rejection episodes, a DALK would be the safer route.

I have PK in both eyes. One rejection a few weeks post graft the first time as the suture was broken. Nearly eight years and one lasik later it is still good. The recent you know. No rejection, only slow clearup-process. How ols is your firs graft now? Had any troubles with it ?

Hej Per!

First graft now 27 months old; slight difficulty but nothing that wasn;t easily managed. I have very good sight (with glasses) in my graft eye. No sight in my remaining eye, hence my wait for a second donor.

At first I was fairly well committed to PK, but DALK is an increasingly attractive option. I know that my ophthalmologist has a great deal of experience with DALK procedures, so I'll talk to him. My appointment in March 30, so not long to wait.

Ramaesh. I think he was at the conference. he now has a 'junior consultant' (I've never heard of this distinction in the hierarchy of medicine) called Malek woring with him.
