After having gone through several lens types and having problems with most of them my CL clinic then decided that it was best to move back to RGPs but with a larger diameter so it would be slightly more comfortable due to my previous intolerance.
As well as being supplied with a new RGP my optometrist also fitted with a new type of trial lens, the 'flex edge' lens by JACL (http://www.jackallencontactlenses.com). The first one which was the same size as the rgp was very mobile so was then fitted with a larger diameter which was a better fit.
The flex edge is an rgp lens with the edge thinner than the centre so it is flexible. It is fairly similar to a soft perm. However, the whole lens is made from the same material and is one piece rather than two fused together so it is less likely to split as softperms may do. As the whole lens is made from rgp materials standard cleaning/conditioning solutions can used and will have decent oxygen permability. The soft perm only comes in i think 3 different diamters. As the flex edge is a type of rgp more diamters can be available and can be adjusted to certain requirement......which was what I was told.
As this lens is in the trial stages I am testing it out to see how I am getting on with it. Today is the first day I have worn it. The one i am wearing right now looks veery similar to a soft perm and is roughly the same size. It was very easy to insert. The second it was in and till now which is 5 hours later i could not tell I have a lens in at all. Normally i can feel the lens for the first few minutes and settles after 30 mins but can still feel it. This lens I can not feel anything at all.
There is no power in the lens as I could see 6/6 as soon it was inserted. At the moment it is goin well but the lens may need some adjustments or a better fit maybe required. I have a follow up in 4 weeks to check the progress.
The lenses that I have tried are RGPs (could not tolerate discomfort), piggybacks vision became cloudy/misty due to pxygemn permability), kerasoft (my KC was too advanced for this), rose k, softperms (fit eventually became too tight due to lack of sizes available) and semi-limbals (vision became cloudy/misty due to pxygemn permability). The only lenses I have no yet tried are scleral lenses. The lenses I found previously to be the best were softperms regarding both comfort and vision.
I am posting this information for people who are looking for another lens type who have already tried most others available, so hope it helps some of you. You may want to give these lenses a try.

Hhmm am not sure now if this may be the lens i have as i was told that it is thinner on the outside and is a larger one than usual, but i can't remember it's name. I got in from Wales about six months ago, and have just been treating it as a RGP but still find it uncomfortable at times, so now am using it piggy back with a soft perm but do find that they get cloudy. It is much more comfortable though!
Am hoping that things work out for you with this lens, i know it's hard to find a lens we like.
Take care
