INTACS

Postby Vicky Houston » Thu 25 Aug 2005 12:25 pm

I am on the waiting list to have INTACS put into my worst eye. i have been diagnoised with Keratoconus since 1996 and i am at the point where i can no longer wear contact lenses and my quality of life seems to be quiet low at the moment.
I am trying to put off a graft as long as i can, so i am trying to find out if anyone has had any experiance with INTACS?

Hi

Theres a few posts on this.....however its deemed that for KC thats advanced or a K reading of over 58 its not really worth doing it........
However this is not something all the consultants beleive in so its more who you see and who is doing it..........

But bear in mind the reason for Intacts.....its not to get you better vision..its to change the shape of the cornea thus a lens can fit better.......thats something very important to rememver with Intacs
KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -

Hi Vicky
Were you able to wear contacts comfortably in the past,or have you always struggled with them? What types of lenses have you tried? Did they give you any indication on how advanced your KC is in the worst and the best eye?As Jayuk says you may still need to wear contacts after intacts unless it's mild and you might get away with specs.Hence if your CL tolerance has always been poor you have to bear this in mind.
