Hi all, remember me? I had my graft to the left eye on June 21st and so far touch wood its been ok. I don't have any useful vision from it but from day one I have only had to use one lot of drops-(pred forte)- steroids. No problems with pressure and no rejection episodes yet She said tempting fate.
However life has not been all plain sailing. I came out of hospital on the Wednesday and on the Sunday I couldn't keep off the loo. This went on for about a week and I went to my GP. I had contracted salmonella! From where we will never know but amazingly no other family member had it !
It gets worse. My salmonella was so severe that it developed into Reuter's which basically means that I contracted reactive arthritis which left me unable to walk at all. My temperature flew up and I ended up in hospital for a week. When my husband went on the website to look up all of these symptoms we found that in severe cases reuters can also cause problems with the cornea - ulcers I think it said.
Can you believe my luck!
I am still off work, not so much cos of the graft, but the arthritis is still quite bad. I am still submitting samples and I still have salmonella!
As you can imagine I have been quite depressed to say the least. I have tried to post on the forum a few times before now to let you know that all was well with the graft but didn't feel up to it!
I would like to reassure anyone who is about to take the plunge that the graft operation was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I hardly had any pain from day one and so far all is sweet!

Hi Pauline,
Good to hear the graft went OK, with any luck your graft will be trouble free like mine. 16 years and still going strong.
Makes you wonder about hospital hygeine after what you have been through. Sounds like a complaint to the hospital is in order to see if you are an isolated case or if there have been others. You have had a transpalnt operation after all.
Hope the rest of the recovery goes better.

KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -

Am really sorry to hear how everything went for you, though am happy that your graft went well! Am just about to have one done as well, and it is reassuring to come here and read about others experiences.
Hoping that you feel better soon and that your vision improves, which as we all know, just takes some time! Patience is a VERY big word isn't it?!! LOL!!
Take care
