Advice on possible moving

Postby Chris_J » Thu 02 Jan 2025 1:29 pm

Hi all,

I wondered if I could ask some advice? I'm currently under the care of BMEC for Keratoconus and see them every six months for reviews. I'm very happy there, and they have always been brilliant with their care, but I have now moved to Wakefield and have been wondering about asking for a transfer somewhere closer to home.

I'm a bit reluctant to move given how good BMEC have been but its more than a bit of a trip each time now and hence wondering about moving. I'll have to ask at BMEC if there is a process in place, but from a point of view of a closest eye centre, it is Pinderfields, although St James' isn't a million miles away so I wondered if anyone had any advice on moving, options on eye centres, and, any comments you might have on them.

Thank you in advance for any replies / help, I know its been a very very long time since I posted on this forum!

Thanks,

Chris

I cannot comment on the specific hospitals as they are outside my area. Many who move choose to stay at their old hospital anyway, but if you do want to change, there is an established NHS procedure for making it happen. BMEC should be aware of it and are probably taking on incoming patients at the same time. PALS might be able to advise. If all else fails your new GP could re-refer you but get them to include details of you BMEC care (e.g. last letter, with a hospital number).

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your response. I am actually there today I have just realised so I will inquire then. I'm still not 100% sure about moving given how good BMEC have been, but the travelling is getting to me a little as its about 120 miles each way. I hadn't thought about PALS either, so thanks for mentioning that, appreciated!

Cheers,

Chris
