Generally I think one eye at a time is done, just incase there is a problem with the first one. That is what I was told when I had my first graft. I was in desperate need for two, but the worst eye was done first and the second was only done when the first one had stabilised and could be corrected with glasses.
When my Gran had her cataracts done, the worst eye was done first and once that was deemed satisfactory, the second cataract was done.
Good luck for the future, but sounds like graft would be your best option, sooner they put you on the list, sooner you get a graft. No idea of the situation now, but from me going on the waiting list to getting a donor was just over a month. However that was 18 years ago and apparently more people carry donor cards now than back then.

Hi Ade
They come in two parts and are put in ONE eye.....in a circular position
SOunds like they are taking one out to change the shape of the cornea and thus possibly make the cornea a better shape for lens fitting

Lol its ok mate......Jay is fine.
Yes know of people that have had it done
I MAY be having it on my left eye, but am waiting for right eye to stablise......the outcome is mixed some have really good results.....and post correction have been know to go from 20/80 to 20/20 and the likes....it realy depends on
Lens type, how the cornea is shaped, the skill of your CL fitters, etc
Its diffucult to say however...its like saying Will a graft be successful.....really really hard.......but the man purpose of Intacts is to alter the cornea shape thus change the conical dimension....THUS enabling a better lens fit..THUS potentially allowing for better pre and post corrective vision
BUT it IS reversable.....so thats a very good plus point with this semi invasive procedure

Intacs
I have just had Intac surgery onmy right eye last Wednesday under Mr Daya at the Centre for Sight in East Grinstead. May I add some points to the discussion.
Someone (I apologise for not using your name) correctly pointed out that INTACS are used to re-shape the eye, help to reduce the astigmatism, which in my case it has successfully done.
I will if my eye continues to remain as is will need to wear a soft lens or possibly glasses.
I am somewhat concerned to here Sanjeev stating that Ferrara (sorry about spelling) rings are better than INTACS, on what evidence are you basing this, and if in fact this is true then why is Mr Daya, one of the leading corneal surgeons in the UK, and possibly the world if I may be so bold using INTACS?
Finally, as I discovered yesterday, the fit of the INTAC is slightly dependant on the method of surgery used. I was indeed fortunate that the channels bored for the INTACS were created by laser, rather than the hand method, this ensures a snugger (if such a word) fit. Also I may add that I am not private but NHS.
I await to hear feedback

Hello Albion
Hows the results so far? anything tangible?..I agree there must be a good reason why you were given Intac as opposed to Ferrara rings......as SD def knows his stuff on Corneas!
Sajeev, bless his coton socks, was correct in what he said on this occasion......Intac stemmed from correcting; if im not mistaken mild astigmatism and myopia initially and then they found another use for Keratoconic patients, Ferrara Rings are more bigger then intacts and thus have been known to help patients with advanced keratoconus.
Actually, to quote Sheraz's text
How do Ferrara rings differ from INTACS?
The Ferrara rings are smaller than INTACS and although small do not produce glare as they are shaped like a prism. Any light entering the ring is reflected back out again away from the visual pathway. Because Ferrara rings are smaller and positioned closer to the centre of the cornea, they are more powerful and can reduce myopia up to -12.00 D.

update
Hi all
sorry its been so long since my last note but its been a difficult time for me at the moment.
i went into hospital this week to have my intacs removed. i was informed before the surgary that they were going to try a thinner intact once the old ones were ot this would give a beter corneal shape hence hopefully give me better vision.
The operation happened on wednesday on thursday i went down to the eye clinic from my ward to have my eye cleaned and to my horror i was told that the operation went wrong the surgan was able to get my old intacs out but could not put a new one in as the old intacs had caused to much damage to my cornea,
The result was i spent one more day in hospital feeling rather sick and now have the graft to look forward to.
i hae also been told not to drive untill the graft which will be in the next 3 months i feel as if i have had my left leg cut off, its effected my work and my social life .
i came out of hospital today feeling very strange im not actualy in that much pain just anoyed that i was not told that the operation could go wrong,
im off for the next two weeks i can not wait for this year to finish any help with recovering from a graft would be appreciated.
sorry yo be so down again one day i will write something posotive.
