New to Forum: Advice on Scleral Lenses
I was diagnosed with KC when I was 18 and had a in my right eye when I was 22. Since then my vision has been acceptable with spectacles only. However, it seems to have deteriorated in recent years and my optometrist has suggested scleral lenses. I find this very difficult to fit and uncomfortable to wear, although if I have to put up with this then I will do. Are there any alternatives?

Re: New to Forum: Advice on Scleral Lenses
There's a variety of lenses for KC these days, from corneal rgps which come in different sizes, piggy backing (wearing a soft lens underneath a rigid lens), hybrid lenses (hard in the middle, soft round the outside, and the various scleral lenses which again now come in different sizes with the full scleral covering the whole eye. It's pretty unusual for a scleral lens to be offered as a first option, so I wonder whether there's something about the shape of your cornea that makes it the most suitable one for you in your optometrist's eyes. Some people find sclerals really comfortable once they've got used to them, others can't get on with them. So talk about the problems you're having with your optom to see whether another lens option might work better for you.

Re: New to Forum: Advice on Scleral Lenses
I've been using scleral lenses for a while now, but I also have a pair of ordinary RGP lenses. Scleral lenses are tough to get the hang of, but once you crack it they are brilliant (in my opinion anyway) and are much more comfortable than the alternatives.
What are you finding difficult with the sclerals? Is it the insertion?

Agree with Dimc89 once you nail the insertion they're extremely comfortable if the eye docs have given you the correct fitting.
