My cleaning method is in the palm of my hand using a finger to rub it clean. Alternatively hold the lens between the thumb and forefinger and rub gently.

I can't see how bending the lens would be a good idea. I'm no expert, but I reckon you've been given dodgy advice there. Maybe as has been proved.

Anyway as to the lens staying in, I'm a lens wearer or about 4 months experience now (quite an old hand I think), I find I'm surprised how well they stay in. I have only had the damn thing(s) pop out on me once.

A slightly indelicate moment as I was standing infront of a loo at the time (ahem  ) answering nature's call. The lens just popped out as I blinked, somehow my subconscious mind took over and I managed to side swipe the lens as it fell with my free hand ( again)so it landed on the floor and not in the loo (phew  ).

I managed to find it (thank God I didn't have to call for help :D ), cleaned it up with some tepid water and off to go.

So that's been my only panic really in four months.

I know how you feel though. It's daunting in the early days, but you'll soon get into your own daft lens routine, and then it becomes quite easy.

Take your time and don't try to rush. I'd also advise giving yourself little lens holidays. I can manage OKish so I leave them out at weekends and use glasses when I need them. For me it helps give me and my eyes a rest.

Good luck!

I spent two months looking at mine on the bathroom shelf feeling guilty as hell, because I just didn't want to try with them.

I put off appt after appt with the opt' the longer it went on the more pathetic the excuses got.

In the end it's down to you to make the time and just do it. I didn't do it on a work day, cos as you say, time is so tight in the morning, and you're knackered when you get home.

I tried on the weekend, building up bit by bit and eventually, I took the plunge and wore them to work. Quite terrifying at first, but after a week or two no problem.

It's not easy but it CAN be done.

Good luck!

Thanks Paul

LOL about your incident. At the time, it probably was not funny though.

I found when i took lens out of solution after the night. There was a lot of solution still on lens as i was rubbing on the palm. Do you just rub in the one area till it is all gone or move around.

That is another question that i must ask optician, if lens falls when out, what do i do as i will not have solution on me

I carry around with me my lens case and artifical tears and a small refillable bottle of saline, they all fit together so takes up no more space than say a pack of cigs... so on those times it has fallen out a quick rinse (unless it fall into something really nasty) I pop it back in but I honestly have to confess at a complete loose and in bad need, much to the horror of my doctor I've popped the lens into my mouth then put it back into my eye, I've gotten away by doing this a few times, but its not a course of action unless you're in real trouble and 'need to see', as soon as I got home I washed the lens properly and bathed my eye to prevent any infection or complications ...

My clinic and consultant are excellent, I've only ever had to pay for my contacts at the very start, I do a tiny amount of free gratis work for the clinic and so they waive any charges or replacement charges, so I'm faily lucky in that way. But I have paid upwards of £90 per lens ...

I'm not sure about anyone else, but it only takes me seconds in the morning to pop my lenses in and I do mean seconds, until recently when my left became more and more painful to wear a lens at all. But having travelled around quite alot, I've put my lenses in in complete darkness, while on a train or plane and even during a few bus rides, yeah even while walking.

But cleaning can indeed be a complete boring chore and I have missed cleaning them a bunch of times, as long as I was changing the conditioning solution that they rest in the case with, I didn't see a very big problem in doing that when the need arose. By the way, I'm not sure what solutions you use withnall but I use Boston Advanced 'wetting and soaking' and Boston Advanced Cleaning solutions, Bottles of saline to rinse them after Cleaning but the Boston 'wetting and soaking' u can steep the lens in over night and are safe to remove from the lens-case and put direct into your eye, so you dont need to worry about 'removing extra fluid'.

As for cleaning them, u put the lens into your palm, few drops of cleaning solution and 'massage' it into the lens both sides, just flip it over with the tip of your finger, cup your hand and add saline, rub it with your finger and let the saline drain away. using ur forefinger and thumb pick up the lens, aim the saline at it and spray the rest of the cleaning solution off, then drop into the case with the wetting and soaking solutions, takes like 2mins each night.

Hope that helps

I move it around the hand, but to be honest I don't mind the solution at all, it seems to make positioning the lens easier and add comfort.

As for not having solution with me, I always take my little emergency kit with me.

That is very lovely little green Body Shop mirror that my wife dug out of a draw. About 6cms wide and very slim, and my lens's carrying case which has solution in it...oh and my little 3ml bottle of Systane. All fits in my pocket or the wife's handbag...then I can face any situation.

One more bit of advice. If the weather is right, wear sunglasses. It stops bit getting into your eyes which is murder in lenses. You look good (well sort of) and very practical.

Thanks for the tips. They are very good. Good to see that everyone has a littel bother at the start.

Opticians phoned and said that they will cover the cost of replacment lens.

I am going to ask the optician for more detaisl on aftercareas i left there with a lot of unanswered questions.

I use BostonSimplus. It is an all in one. It has a lens case and the solution in the box. I just get a little worried when i see some of the solution still on the lens after using baby finger and palm .

I suppose i will laugh at thsi in a few months
