Hi
Yes when i first was in my current job i had the assessment from access to work and through it received a CCTV that reads normal size documents and puts on to the screen.also magnifys
I also have supernova which has the speech element and magnifyer as well. I have found this brilliant better than dragon As supernova you can split the screen to enlarge and normal so if you and someone else is reading it together you dont have to keep messing about.
With access to work they also come out and see you regularly at work.
Graeme- when i was a student i had a lot of help too i had a computer, printer etc, with dragon software. Also a recorder thing as well to tape lectures. I also had a writer in exams to write for me.
I agree there is a lot of help out there but alot of people do not realise.
Just somethign that I thought might help

Hi Drew
Notice you said you're off to uni ...my daughter was in the same situ 3 years ago she visited the dissabilities unit at u.w.e (bristol ).and they were brilliant told her what to do regards to her pathway. she ended up with everything she could wish for ...all free, no means testing. A laptop, mini discs, microphones, software that talks to her in 3 languages, scanning equipment that once scanned will talk to her( yes fraid in strange voice)
BUT it means she's independant.
If you look on the home page of this site it gives details of various publications one is for students. It might be an idea to get a copy and take it along to your uni to help explain about KC and how it effects your studies.
good luck

Thanks Sandi.
I am just waiting for my GP to do me a letter so I can get a referral for an assesment of need at Cardiff. Its a bit different for me because my university place is funded by NHS Wales, but I still get the same level of additional support as you would if you were an LEA funded student.
Will update if I find anymore pot holes.
