Reading and seeing

Hi folks, may I pick your collective brains.
I need to be reading something out to a group and the problem is I now wear glasses with my lens for all reading which is fine for glancing down but it means that when I look outwards people are blurred. I can't lift the glasses on/off and it's uncomfortable shifting up/down my nose. I've tried printing out with a large font and reading without glasses but it doesn't quite work [or maybe I can't adjust], so I don't know what to do. I find it really disconcerting if I use my glasses being able to read but not being able to see people as I look up

I understand the problem, it's a nuisance taking reading glasses on and off.

You could get a weaker pair of reading glasses and use larger print so that you will be able to read your text and the audience won't be quite so blurred.

Or you could invest in a pair of varifocals glasses which can be worn over your lenses.

Thanks Lia, or would those half moon frames with my existing prescription be another option so I could keep the glasses on, look down for reading and look ahead clear to see people?

Hi Lou,

Lots of people who have "normal" vision have the same issue.

Yes "Half eyes" would work well, as would bifocals or varifocals, though I think actually you would probably get on better with bifocals as they can provuide a large stable readibng area.

thanks Lynn I've come to the conclusion that bifocals would work best for me for this.

Welcome to my world!

They won't give me bifocals; something to do with the complexity of my prescription. I just juggle glasses. It all adds to my reputation of mild eccentricity:)
