What actually causes sensitivity to light?

Postby James_Ldn » Sat 10 Nov 2012 9:03 pm

Hi all,

I just wanted to know, what aspect of KC actually causes the sensitivity to light? Is it because the cornea gets thinner over time which lets more light in, or is it because of the changing shape of the cornea?

I recently had CXL done and I notice that some days the treated eye feels sensitive to light and then on other days I'm fine.

Does anyone know if cross-linking can improve the eye's sensitivity to light over time? And what about wearing contact lenses - can they have any affect on light sensitivity?

Thanks, James.

Hi there,

TO cut a long story very short. I have had a total of five procedures involving intacs in and out before having a graft on my right eye - 12 days ago

With each operation my eye was sensitive to light and everytime took a longer period of time before i was able to tolerate daylight and bright sunlight.

Example...most days over the past 11 days I have been unable to tolerate the blinds open at the front of our house...as I cant tolerate the sunshine, and have been behind blinds and closed curtains most of the day.. Even on a not sunny day the eye takes most of the morning to settle down....example on friday it was cloudy and rainy most of the day here in the north of england...I went out mid morning wearing the dark glasses the consultant give me and travelled into town by bus. It wasnt until after lunch time that I was able to walk around wihtout wearing the dark.

The afternoons are best for me, before the eye then becomes tired and dry into the evening.

I have heard the same kinds of stories following cxl too.

You are not alone, I totally understand how you feel. Fingers crossed it settles soon for us both.

ali
