Dr. Artsybashev would certainly be willing to have a discussion with other ophthalmologists. You are correct that this procedure has been able to help patients without any other options. In fact, there is a small percentage of patients who are not even candidates for corneal transplants due to complicating factors such as a decreased endothelial cell count, severe collagenosis, severe allergies, leukemia, or a number of other conditions. However, preliminary research is showing that patients operated at keratoconus stages I and II without prior interventions obtianed the highest average uncorrected visual acuity following surgery. As with the majority of interventions for keratoconus patients, the prognosis is better when the condition is in the earlier stages.
