Kerasoft3 consistency

Postby murraym » Mon 06 Feb 2012 1:57 pm

Hi there,
Am new to this forum - diagnosed with Keratoconus around 6 years ago, and have been, until very recently, using Kerasoft3, fitted by local optician. A few months ago started attending the contact lens clinic at Gartnavel Hospital, who insisted that their protocol required me to swap the Kerasoft3 for RGP, which has resulted in much discomfort and pain over the last few months, although vision is improved. Now trying the piggybacking setup, which is very slightly better but can't get beyond a few hours wear without significant discomfort. The nhs opticians maintain that they are not keen to prescribe the Ks3 lenses on the grounds of inconsistency i.e. wearing lenses with the same prescription resulting in different visual outcomes. I did experience this and sent a number back over the years. Has this been a significant problem for anyone else?
Thanks

Hello:

Kerasoft 3 has been upgraded into Kerasoft IC some years ago. This new design is much more consistent and provides better clinical outcome than the -3 old version.
Nevertheless I would love to know why the contact lens clinic at Gartnavel Hospital insists so much in fitting you with RGP lenses taking in consideration that this modality does not halt the progression of the disease and may even produce further harm and at least as in your case are far more uncomfortable.
