Contact Lenses

Postby Samantha_Radford » Wed 01 Feb 2012 12:42 pm

HI,

I have KC and wear glasses, which arent great because although they correct my short sightedness, they dont get rid of the haloes/light streaks/ghosting. I know contact lenses would get rid of this, but i have a phobia of contact lenses. I have tried to get them in (just some fashionable coloured ones) and just cannot after hours of trying. Anyone else had this problem and how did you get over it?

Thanks.

I know the feeling. The first time i had a lens put into my eye i fainted! It takes some determination but you eventually get used to it. Maybe give yourself a small treat for getting them... Another option is to go to your optician and get them to put them in for you for the first time so you can see that they aren't that bad once in.

Fainted?
Thats extreme! How lond did it take for you to get used to them, and what about the vision? Also what type of lenses were they?

Hard lenses are horrible to put in and wear, but if you go to the optician they may try piggy back lenses. These are thin soft lenses that sit on your eye and then the hard one goes on top so you don't feel it touching your eye. They are as comfortable as soft lenses but correct your vision in the same way a hard lens does

For me the better quality of vision that I get from lenses is well worth the extra hassle

So withouth the lenses do you get haloes/light streaks, ghosting? And do you get this with the lenses? And can you feel these in your eyes, my eyes are really senstive?

Maybe a little extreme yes, but I have been fine since that first time.
It didn't take too long for my eyes to get used to them, just wear them for a short time at first and gradually increase it as you get used to them.
They were RGP lenses and the vision with them was far better with them, that it was worth persisting with them. I still have RGP's (about 6 years on) and wear them most of the day as I can't see too much without them

Yes, with glasses I have loads of haloes and light streaks and really can't drive with them at night. With the soft lenses underneath the hard ones I can't feel them either going in or once they are in.
