Well its done

Postby Richard In Wales » Thu 07 Oct 2004 10:13 pm

Had the Op yesterday and all seems well, the doctor seems well impressed with the outcome and he thinks its taken really well. I was quite pleased with his report and am looking forward to the eye getting better and seeing an improvement.

As always its still a bit sore and I have to remember to open the eye to let it work, I suppose thatÂ’s a reaction thatÂ’s inbuilt to close the lid when it feels like thereÂ’s something in it.

They took photos through the operation and I will be making a web site odf it all very soon for information to others.

I'd like to thank all the people here for their great support through this trauma. 6 weeks from blind to operation was very quick and took some getting my head around but your help and having the ability to express my worries and fears helped me no end.

I have also passed on this sight to the specialists at the hospital as they where very short of any information to give to other sufferers.

I will of course keep you all updated as it goes along

Many thanks

Dave in Wales with a new left eye :)

done yesterday woo hoo

Postby nawty » Fri 15 Oct 2004 10:49 pm

hey dave and readers,
well its finally done. yesterday afternoon and icame home this morning. i was bouncing round not believing that i had been through a major eye op. then tonight i got the wake up call , i think the anestheatic has worn off. dont get scared though people, you would expect a little head ache and and a bit of a sore eye. nothing any of you havent had before i expect. they checked my vision and i can actually read letters on the board already. still blurry but this is day one. im well chuffed. a little tip - if any of you smoke stop 3 days before or it takes ages for your blood/oxygen levels to stabilise after the op in recovery. even if you actually feel alright. i got a right lecture. my kids think its well cool that their dad looks like a pirate i am now known as captain jack sparrow of hampshire. but even cooler than that. they can see the stiches and are lovin it. i will get the better half to take photos for you all during recovery. how do i paste them in? does anyone know? finally for those of you who are waiting i cant tell you about the recovery but the op is not the big deall everyone says it is. just relax and you will be over the moon that you did it. talk soon

Nice one mate well done, they wasn't happy that I had a fag 10 mins before the operation either, they tried to tell me off but I just looked at him and asked how old I was and if he though it right to be talking to me like a child, he shut up then :) I even asked the sister if it was OK to go for a fag before the op and she sent me to the bogs to smoke it :)

I can't quite see out of mine yet it's still very blurred but the pain has stopped which is one thing although I swear the drops I'm on are playing hell with my guts. I get very very bad indigestion after using them :( I'm going to have to ask about that on Monday when I see them next.

Hope it goes well fellow Cpt Jack Sparrow

Just out of interest what eye drops are you on ?

exactly the same, I think with me my eye is constantly watering and the drops and stuff is running down my cheek into my mouth and I'm drinking it :(

I've put a wad of tissue under the eye now to try and stop that affect and see if my stomach ache stops. I know when I use the drops after a bit I can taste them in the back of my throat but I think its the watering getting into my mouth thats the main course. seems extra watery today :( not doing to well

I was on
Atropine 1 a day (Now stopped)
Chloraphenicol 4 x a day
Maxidex now 1 every hour
Maxitrol ointment at night

for some reason it feels like theres a big bit of grit in the eye today

tear ducts

Postby nawty » Sat 16 Oct 2004 11:30 pm

i get that taste in my throat after i have the drops and i thought it might go down through my tear duct down my sinuses then down my throat. cos it definateley isnt going in my mouth. but if it is the drops working my way into my stomach - ive had enought of it being tight. me eye consantly feels gritty but i can live with that. by the way your blog is f***ing class mate. it cracked me up.
