Thanks Alec, may I ask how old you are and how long you took the immunosuppressants before you noticed an improvement? How was your general health while taking cyclosporin? My son is having the pre treatment tests at the moment and would welcome news of other's experiences.

If your son has severe atopic conjunctivitis topical ie eye drop immunosuppresants can be extremely helpful, and, being topical rather than systemic medication ie tablets, the side effects are much less of an issue. The cyclosporin drops Restasis are often not strong enough to be effective, and, Optimmune which is actually a veterinary preparation is often prescribed by ophthalmologists specialising in severe allergic eye disease and can be very effective in contolling the symptoms. If Cyclosporin tablets are needed as well eye drops I feel he has to follow his consultants's advice as benefits almost always outweigh any concerns regarding side effects.
