life with sclerals............

Postby sarah.w » Mon 04 Apr 2011 8:22 pm

hey guys i hope everyone is well, seems ages since i was last on here!

Just having a thought so thought i would put it out there!

I have had my sclerals now for about 7 ish years i think. I Have been lucky enough to go to college and uni etc but Im finding now that i want to go off travelling/ski seasons etc on my own its holding me back a bit. As most of you know alot of us have two extreme eye sights with are lenses in and out. I can drive with them in but without lenses i literally cannot see a thing just a sea/blur of colour....

It amazes me how much saline i get through in a week and from my experience of travelling with my best friend a few years back my luggage was largely weighed down by amidose and saline......lucky for me we were in developed countries so saline was easy to find. I would love to go and travel south america and asia but i cant really see a boots chemist turning up in the middle of the inca trail!

Also being on the plane is an issue i really hate the thought of being 'escorted' off the plane so i can put my lenses in once at the airport. Then there's the fluid restrictions which is another issue!

Im basically just having a little rant as im getting frustated with my lenses at the minute......would just love to put on a pair of glasses and see but we can dream eh?!

If anyone has any suggestions or alternatives (!) to sclerals or tips/advice anything it would be much appreciated.

thank you
sarah xx

Sarah

Well ranted! These are the frustrations of life with KC, but I am afraid that I have no suggestions about alternatives to sclerals. My own experience is that they were the best lenses for me while I had them.

Every good wish with your skiing trip

Andrew

Thanks andrew just having a few problems with them at the minute my lens wearing time is reducing as one of my eyes is not tolerating the lens for very long it becomes pink and stingy more quickly. Hoping is just a case of lens fit. The other eyes has a huge scar on it from previous hydrops so i dont have much vision in that one anyway!

I know compared to most mine doesnt seem to bad but it does get you down every now and then! Watching Katie Piper - my beautiful friends last night puts things into perspective doesnt it!

Many thanks x

sarah

I watched that programme too; I am humbled by her courage.

All the best with the sclerals. It may be that you are having a problem with fit, or maybe your lens is getting dry?

Evert good wish

Andrew
