eye drops query post graft

Postby LobeyDosser » Thu 03 Mar 2011 1:37 pm

I'm now 10 months on from my graft.

How long do people normally stay on drops such as maxidex? I've recently came off mine as they appeared to be putting my eye pressure through the roof. My eye presure is now back to normal thankfully with the aid of some new drops but the downside is that I'm regularly getting a red eye. Something that never happened while I was taking the maxidex once a day.

I'm not entirely sure as to whether the redness stems from the absence of the maxidex or a side effect of the pressure drops. Any idea?

Should an over the counter eye drop ease the redness?

I was on dexamethasone (maxidex) for nearly a year. the dose was reduced after eight weeks and then tapered from time to time so that, in the end, I was using one drop a day then one every second day and then none at all.

I'm not sure there is a standard time for being on steroid drops as peoples' grafts tend to heal at different rates, though the minimum seems to be around 6 months. As for the red eye, that's a question only someone examining your eye can answer. If the redness is there all the time, then a trip to A&E wouldn't come amiss (redness near the graft can be a sign of a rejection episode). If it's there only some of the time, then do ask about it at your next follow up appt.
All the best
Anne

Hi

I am ten years down the road from my first Graft and still use Predminim's drops once a day into both eyes. Now I am having problems at the moment so this has increased but normally it is just once a day.

thanks,
Amanda
