When do I get the bill

Postby GrandPaClanger » Thu 15 Jul 2010 7:55 pm

Hi All
Waiting on my new lenses from the NHS (first ones in over 20 years as I have been private before until we could not get a fit  ). At no point during the fitting did the nice lady mention that there would be a cost attached, £55 each I belive looking at the other post. So my question is are you presented with a bill when you collect them. Cant say I have ever seen a debit card machine in a hospital but I may be wrong.

Having only ever got NHS lenses from Moorfields I can only comment on theIr system whereby the lens is only ordered once you have made payment to their cashier (situated elsewhere in the hospital).

There are exceptions for those people that do not have to pay, e.g. claiming benefit of some kind (DLA, Job Seekers Allowance), you are at retirement age etc. It may be worth asking though as I am sure you would agree £55 is a small cost to pay compared to no vision!

Thanks for that Jay

As I am in full time employment and not of retirement age I am expecting to pay. As you say £110 for two lenses is a bargin I paid a lot more than that for a single lens before. I was just surprised that nothing was mentioned at the Leicester Royal. I have an appointment on the 11th August to pick them up and check the fit. Hopefully they will be there. Guess I will go armed with a debit card and cheque book. I may even ring them a few days before to see if they have arrived. I am having a real bad time with the existing lenses so really cant afford any hicups (The first appointment was back in March)

Got a phone call yesterday to say the lenses are in (took two weeks :big thumbs up : ) I am collecting them this afternoon. I have an appointment on the 11th August to check the fit. If everything is OK I pay for them then.

If these solve my issues I will be over the moon. Been in a darkened room without lenses and using an ice pillow (ebay) by 7.30 every night this week. its getting boring now.
