Hi, I have just registerd with you as my Husband has just been diagnosed with Keratoconus. He found out after going for an initial military medical and was susiquently turned down. Now here is the problem - He would like to apply for the Police Force but is unsure if the same eyesight rules apply. The condition does not cause him any problems, he has no signs or symptoms, just wears glasses for reading. Does anyone know if an application for the police force would be rejected due to Keratonconus? Thanks for listening.

Hey Pixie, welcome to the forum.

I do know that KC is an automatic disqualifier, if observed, for military service, but I don't know about the police.

I guess there will be somebody along in a moment who can answer your question.

Have a look at this web site Association Optometrists Visual Standards

It gives the basic requirements but advises contacting the force being applied to incase they apply slightly different standards.

I have a keratoconus patient who has recently joined the merchant navy.

My son has ketatoconus and is a prison officer. He's had a transplant last September and returned to work after 6 wks. No problems employment wise at all.
