Mabs

You actually can't talk about "soft lenses" in general any more than you can RGPs as this actually refers to the material not the design. If you cannot see well with one design, then another can be tried. The same goes for RGPs, if you have discomfort with one type you may not with another. Becasue things have been tried once and not worked does not mean such lenses CANNOT work.

There is a perceived cost implication with lenses other than RGP, however, as Gareth has pointed out, with soft lenses and indeed with sclerals, there is often less need for frequent follow ups.

As Iuddle along I have found that Lynn and Gareth are each usually spot on with the advice they offer here. If your current optomological arrangements go on excluding you from access to scleral lenses or new material soft lenses ( like the kerasoft 3 ) then you should know that you have a perfect right to seek a referral to another hospital contact lens clinic where there may be differently skilled staff.

It is very clear that while the RGP corneal lens suits some people very well, it is not suitable for everybody.

Every good wish.

Just to update on my previous posting. I had another fitting session yesterday with a soft lens which again has not sorted out my vision. They are now going to try piggy backing a hard lens on top of a soft lens. Hopefully this will be done by the end of next week, will let you know how it goes.

Cheers

Dave

CONTACT BREAK I HAD TO HAVE!

I went through a bad stage in 2007 when i could not wear my lens.......
and went back to the optician and tried several lens to no result

got so desperate tried to go private and see a private contact lens person ( refused to touch
me because I was a hospital patient)

any way I took things into my own hands and stopped wearing lens for 4 weeks
( yes my life went on hold ) as my other eye was poor, but decided my eye needed a rest.

am a cornea graft contact lens wearer........

For me it worked........ and been ok since ( when i restarted I built up slowley)
