HELP WITH KERATACOUNUS

Postby shoebp12 » Thu 14 May 2009 5:55 pm

Hi ive asked various questions before, ive been wearing contact lenses(RPG) is been about a week or so, the most ive worn them for is 8 hours. My eyesight is pretty good with glasses(daylilght and general use), but i struggled with computer use and nightime driving. so because of this i though id try rpg lenses. When i have worn them they really hurt, my eyes get smaller i find it hard to keep them open. also redness in the eys, the worst was when i wore them for 8 hours, my eyes were red, they were watery. also when i took them off my eyesight was terrible its like the lenses distorted my vision. i have been to the optician plenty of times, some have been tight some loose. at the moment im thinking whats the point

Hope anyone can give me advice Thanks

Hello again

I wonder whether going to 8 hours in a week is not a bit quick. When I started back with a contact lens I was told half an hour on day 1, an hour on day 2, an hour and a half on day 3, two hours on day 4, two and a half hours on day 5, three hours on day 6, three and a half hours on day 7 ... ... ...

If at any time my eye was objecting, I was told that I should take out the lens and rest my eye.

I know that a slow build up process can seem frustrating, but if the result is long term comfort with an rgp lens, maybe it is worth while.

It can also take a bit of experimentation to find the right combination of lens fluids for you. I use Total care wetting and soaking fluid overnight, the same brand cleaner and an ordinary sort of saline for rinsing. it is important to make sure that all cleaning fluid has been well rinsed off the lens with saline before your wet the lens for insertion. it took me a bit of time to settle on the AMO Total system; prior to that I had tried Bausche and Lomb and some other preparations. Total suits me, but it may not suit you; be prepared to experiment and if you find discomfort, be willing to change.

All the best.
