Opticions, Contacs??

Postby tralaine » Thu 04 Oct 2007 11:20 am

Hi,

I had grafts in both my eyes over 10 years ago, i did have soft perm lenses untill a couple of years ago when i moved to the glasgow area, and cannot find a decent opticians anywhere!! i used to attend specsavers for my soft perms (i got them free every six months) so thought i would try them in Glasgow what can i say!! Never again the specs i was given i couldn't even see out of and they said they didn't do soft perms at all!! So right now i have no specs or lenses can anyone point me in the right direction please? im desperate, as i don't have contacts anymore i can't really go to Gartnavel.

Regards

Tracey

Hi Tracey
If you've had grafts in both eyes, then there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be able to get a referral to Gartnavel. It's a good idea to have grafts monitored regularly anyway, and I'm sure the hospital would also be able to sort you out with lenses or specs. So do go to your GP and get him/her to refer you.
In the meantime if you need something urgently, there is a Glasgow practice on the list of KC friendly optoms on our home page. I don't know if any of the Scots on the forum have used that practice and could tell you more.
Good luck
Anne

Anne is right.

Actually, having had grafts, you ought to be seeing an ophthalmologist fairly regularly. If you are not, then you ought to ask your GP for an early referral (at this point you could suggest a referral to Gartnavel which is where the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology is now situated).

Dr Ramaesh's team would be able to put you in early contact with the Contact Lens people in the hospita.

All the best

Hi,

Thanks for your replys my ophthalmologist actually refered me to Gartnavel not once but twice but i never ever heard anything back from them first time or second  .

Specsavers in Glasgow actually put me off going back to an options i know you can't tar them all with the same brush (is that the saying?) but i paid a lot of money for those specs i got and i could'nt see a b....y thing out of them! in saying that my previous option was brilliant could't have done more for me, oh well some you win some you lose.

tralaine

It sounds a bit like your referral has got lost in the administration. I'd phone them, not once, twice or three times, but every week until they give me the appointment for which I had been referred.

All the best
