contact lens suggestions?

I'm going in for my first hard lens fitting the week after next, and I am wondering if there is a certain type of lens (or a few types) that I should lean towards...that seem to work better for most people. I understand that this is something that usually varies from patient to patient, but still knowing some of the more successful ones would help me. One of the ones I'm leaning towards trying right now is the Rose K...I've read good things about them.

Impossible to say as what works for one will not work for another. At the confrence an opom told us of a study he did trying lenses from different manufacturers on different patients. On some all lenses appeared to fit the same, on another each lens fit was disinctly different between manufacturers.

Just give as much feedback to the fitter regarding lens comfort and what you say. If you can feel the lens, be very specific as to where on the eye or eye lid you feel the lens. This will help the fitter, otherwise all he ahs to go on is where the lens touches the cornea.

More information the better and be patient and relax, you might get a better lens fit first time round.

I'm currently undergoing fitting for RGP's and at the moment have tried 6 different ones and one soft lens. As Gareth has said tell your optom. exactly how it feels and if it is really uncomfortable say so.

As the patient due after me yesterday didn't show up i was able to have a long conversation with my optom. and there are many different types of lens to work through so don't accept one you aren't comfortable with as eventually you should be able to find one that works for you.

Yesterday for example I tried a lens that achieved 6/ 5 -3 vision but was too uncomfortable to wear after one hour so my optom. is getting some more for me to try at my next appointment.

Not necessarily, sometimes what feels comfortable can be sitting very badly on the cornea and risk doing a lot of damage.

However if the fitter can see the fit is bad, but you feel it is comfortable is useful information regarding finding something that works. We sometimes have to compromise and have an OK fitting lens which offers reasonable comfort. It is possible to have a really conmfortable lens and great vision just like it is possible to get great vision from a lens that is really painful!

I think this is why no one has ever said KC is simple

I have had my lenses for a month,when I first wore them I could feel them, its a bit like having an eyelash in your eye, I could also feel it move when I blinked.But the lenses felt comfy as in not painful. After a few hours I stopped being aware of the movement of the lens and couldnt feel it in my eye.
The hardest thing for me to get used to was inserting and removing the lens!
I have got rose K and they are the only ones I have ever tried, maybe struck lucky?
