Hi all,
had my intacs put in my left eye in April at East Grinstead, all went well and recovery was hassle free, although I couldn't tolerate the bandage contact lens. I went in on tuesday expecting to get a prescription for glasses and was told that my cornea had 'melted' around the insertion point exposing the end of one intac segment. I had noticed that it was getting a little painful to touch my eye. So a short while later I was sitting in a chair whilst an extremely steady handed consultant pulled out the exposed segment with a pair of tweezers, all very painless. They kept me in overnight, giving me antibiotic eyedrops every 15 minutes, then let me go home today.
I still have one segment in my left eye and I'm self administering drops every hour, back in tomorrow for a check up. I'll keep you posted on how this all works out.

Intacs
Hi Chad,
I've heard of this happening before... if I remember correctly there was a patient at my doctors clinic with the same problem last time I visited him.
What did your doctor say was the cause of this? And what did he suggest for further treatment/ correction of the affected eye?
Hope all goes well,
Hari

Cause is unknown, the intac hasn't so much as worked it's way out as the cornea has eroded or retracted exposing the intac.
The upside is that right now my eyesight has never been so good, i manged an extra line on the chart today and it wasn't the chart
I've memorised either ;o). I'm told there is a chance that one intac segment will provide sufficient correction. I'm hoping that as my eye settles my vision won't change much from how it is now. I'm being treated as though i have an eye infection, understandable given that I have a hole in my eye, the downside to this is that I've become sensitised to vancomycin so now my eye is very tender and bloodshot, fortunately it only hurts when I put the drops in then eases off so no painkillers required.

Thanks all for the support, only have to put drops in every 3 hours now, I'm alternating between Vancomycin and Gentamicin Forte every 1.5 hrs.
Apart from having a bloodshot eye and having to go to hospital every day for a check up there's no real effect on my lifestyle. I went back to work on Friday.
I can't say enough about how good the treatment I'm getting at East grinstead is, I sometimes feel like I'm a guinea pig, I'm not sure if that's true, but if I am then great, at least they're learning from this and I can literally see the benefit.
