I undertand that there is a "safety plunger" available, which has an air-hole throughout its length.

As long as your finger covers the hole on the plain end, the plunger works like any other. Accidentally stick it to your eye though, and just let go of it, and the suction vanishes... and it falls off.

A great idea.

Donna mentions the main downside regarding plunger use, miss the lens and get your cornea is a bad thing.

It needs to be romved carefully and if panci sets in and you just pull loads damage will be done.

Personally I feel the use of eye lids is safer as when you push them together they catch the edge of the lens and push the lens away from the eye.

Plunger you need to put a small abount of pressure on it to make it stick. I only have the plunger because I work in a laboratory and if I need to remove my lens sharpish there may not be time to wash hands. plunger at least means I can remove a lens in an emergency without need to wash hands or bring them too close to my eyes.

The problem I had with the eyelid removal was that the lens was falling off the cone and ending up in the corner of my eye, painful! Still its earlydays, not even had the lenses for a week yet so once I am over this cold I will try it again.
The safety plunger sounds like a good idea though

when i was first fitted with rgps, i was told the plunger is only for emergencies. i only use it if my lens happens to play hide and seek under my eyelids.

in terms of ordinary lens removal i have no problem in lifting the eyelid and blinking the lens out

Blimey, I've had KC for 20 years and this is the first time I've heard of 'plungers'

Christine

You have not missed much. If you can manage without the little plungers you are better to do so!

All you are missing Christine is the worry about removing your cornea yourself with the plunger! they are handy for when the lens goes awol inside your eyelid but I think you are better not to use them......and I wont once I get the hang of the blinking thing!

I get my plungers from a local optometrist in the shopping mall.

I cant remove my sclerals without a plunger and have been known to go into a frenzy when I cant find one! They have dissapeared down plug holes, or been boiled into oblivion when being cleaned. Now I always keep a couple of spares.
