On Monday I attended Centre for Sight Clinic at East Gristead for Intac treatment.
The procedure took apporximately 5 minutes and was completely painless. I found the whole experience stress free, the staff were very helpful and friendly and after reading many articles on the internet relating to the surgeon, Dr Sheraz Daya, I felt confident that I was in very capable hands.
After the procedure I was given an eye test and was delighted to be told that my vision was already at driving standard and that I should expect this to imporve over the coming months.
On the drive home my eye was completely comfortable, and although it was an extremely sunny day I didn't suffer any light sensitivity, it was also a great feeling to be able to clearly read road signs and car number plates without the aid of spectacles.
I had my checkup yesterday in London and it was confirmed that my inplant had been successful. Today (2 days post op) I am back at work and am happily working in front of my PC.
This is the second time that I've had Intac treatment, the first attempt was made by a well know clinic who failed to do the job correctly. After the initial implant I was left suffering with light sensitivity and pain for 6 months - I also risked losing my business. Eventually it was found that the Intac had extruded through my cornea and was rubbing on my eye lid; the Intac was immediately removed.
Thankfully the clinic made one good decision and referred me to "The Centre for Sight" for the management of my Keratoconus, the clinic have also offered to pay for the treatment.

I used to live 5 minutes away from there and never knew it was there. Whoops!
Really pleased your op went well. Keep us updated as no doubt we'll all be interested in your progress.

Somebody complimented me on my driving yesterday - they left a note on my windscreen "Parking Fine" which was nice.
KC managed with softperm lens in left eye, Intacs (2/11/07) in right eye

Cost
The Intacs were £2400 per eye, although this is fairly expensive, the treatment that I got was of a gold standard and far better than the clinic that I paid £1200 per eye for. I really regret that I didn't find Centre for Sight two years ago - it would have saved a lot of hassle, pain, money, worry etc.

Ed looks in his piggy bank and wonders if his partner would mind him selling the house they bought this time last year.

Dplees,
Based on your experience, please take part in the NICE consultation
NICE consultatio on INTACS treatment
Hopefully this will give more people the choice of NHS or private treatment.

Totally agree here!.
The whole team there are simply outstanding.
Given the choice, I wouldnt want to go anywhere else.
KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -

Thanks for the extra plug Gareth. As you say, endorsement of Intacs from NICE is likely to mean that they will be an option for many more people on the NHS, so it's important for people to have their say (and of course, NICE need to know about any negatives, too). And just a reminder that although obviously those of you who have had Intacs fitted have a special contribution to make, the NICE consultation encourages anyone with KC to comment on the procedure.
