Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with keratoconus in both eyes (left eye severe, right not so bad) approx 7 years ago. I was under consultation at Whipps X hospital in Leytonstone (Moorfields consultanat) for the first 4 years and fitted with my first set of lenses. I went through about 30 left lenses over that period costing me a fortune! Since then I only use one in the right eye, hopefully until now.

I moved to Chelmsford in Essex a couple of years ago and went to Broomfield hospital where the eye clinic their didn't seem to understand the condition. I went back to my doctor who referred me to Moorfields. I attented their clinic amonth ago, and have today visited their contact lens clinic to be fitted with new lenses. I feel much more relieved to be back in the hands of experts. I'm not sure if my condition will worsen but fingers crossed.

Also, I am pleased to find this web address posted on the reception desk there. Now I know that it is not just me! I have been reading everyones messages.

My email id is nickelliot.jones@virgin.net if anyone wants to chat etc.

All the best

Nick

Hi

Does anyone have any tips on coping with Giant Papiliary Conjunctivitis? I have had this for several months now and is starting to get me down, as my eyes are very sore all the time. I have been prescribed two different eye drops, neither of which had much effect, and now I am being fitted for new lenses in a different material, as my optician feels that I may have developed an allergy to the material in my current ones.

It appears the only way to get over the GPC is to leave my lenses out, but as I cant get adequate vision in glasses (cant drive or work in them), I cant get through the day without lenses in. Its a vicious circle!

Has anyone managed to cope with KC and GPC together - any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dawn

Hi

I have been diagnosed with having KC in both eyes. I have been wearing RGP contact lenses for about 6 months now and so far no problems. When I read through all the messages I kind of think myself lucky. I hated using them for the first month or so but beyond that they have been fine.

I have been refered to Moorfields, where today I had my first consultation. It was there that I saw a notice at the reception for this website. I immediately breathed a sigh of relief when I started reading some of the messages. It's nice to talk about the condition without having to get into a lenghthy and understandedbly boring conversation with someone explaining exactly what it is that I have. It's the usual phrase 'Well why don't you just where glasses' that tends to irritate and get me down.

After speaking to the specialist today I am a little confused and slightly worried about what the future holds for me. Consequently I have a few questions particularly concerning the cornea transplant. I would really appreciate it if someone out there could share some knowledge, help or advice.

Here goes.

My specialist said that my sight would continue to deteriate through my twenties but slow down and hopefully stop worsening into my thirties. Is this generally the case with most people?

Secondly the transplant going by the sounds of it is something that I would really like to avoid. However ultimately I realise that I may have to have it. What I would like to know is what happens afterwards. If your eye excepts the new tissue does the transplant last for the rest of your life or will it need to be subsequently renewed if you like after so many years.

Ok thats about it. I hope thats not to much to read.

Thanks for listening. Please contact me at huttonnick@hotmail.com if anybody would like to further this.

Regards and good luck to all the KC'ers out there.

Nick
