Went back to the optometrist at St Paul's yesterday to get my eyes retested only to find that they wouldn't do a retest because Specsavers hadn't given me the glasses. However the optometrist advised that I could go to a normal opticians and get the test done privately.

Went to Vision Express in Liverpool city centre and had the test done there. The Optometrist there not only knew all about KC but had a good understanding of INTACS as well. After about an hour of testing, fine tuning the prescription and retesting each eye individually I now have a new prescription.

Code: Select all

Right
Sph   Cyl   Axis   Prism   Base
-2.50   -4.00   53

Left
Sph   Cyl   Axis   Prism   Base
-2.00   -3.75   126

Va      R           L
6/5 N5   6/5 N5

It is a strange feeling being able to see this well and will probably take a while to get used to. Another thing I have noticed since wearing my new glasses is that the sensitivity to light has now gone back to pr op levels.

Hi Karl,
I'm going in for intac surgery tomorrow, I'd just like to say thankyou for posting your diary, it's been interesting and informative, for both myself and my family.
All the best for the future
Chad

Chad, good luck and let us know how you get on.

Please take time to complete the NICE study (see sticky on discussion forum index) and hopefully this treatment will be more readily available on the NHS.
Gareth

Karl,
Thanks for this excellent diary. It is so useful for those going through the same experience or to make an informed decision about it. Hope your left eye gets better,
Good luck to Chad as well.

Went for another follow up appointment at St Pauls yesterday.

The KC in my left eye hasn't progressed any further Image

A couple of changes in my right eye, the astigmatism has worsened slightly but the spherical power has gone down so overall no change. Topography showed the cornea of the right eye to be vastly improved than that pre op.

New prescription

Right

Sph: -6.00 Cyl: +4.25 Axis 140 V/A 6/5 N5

Left

Sph: -6.00 Cyl: +4.50 Axis 45 V/A 6/6-1 N5

Not due back for another 6 months now.

Overall it is looking like the INTACS was successful
