Hi all,

It’s been a while since I posted so I thought I would start with a bit of good news. Finally after 18 months of swapping lenses around my vision is very good (I thought this day would never come). I can now wear them all day every day and this weekend had the indescribable pleasure of watching my three children having a snowball fight and being able to see the smiles on their faces from all the way across the garden. Its magic. (thanks to everyone at the Halamshire contact lens clinic).

That’s my positive, I hope it will last.

On to the question.

My brother has just renewed his MedicAlert tag which he has because he is diabetic. This got me thinking, should I have one because of KC? I seem to remember someone saying that if a patient is taken to casualty unconscious it is important for any lenses to be removed (I think it was on a first Aid course). I think they also act as a type of donor card and have next of kin details cross-referenced with them which may be useful.

If casualty routinely check for lenses or if its not to much of a problem leaving them in it may not be worth it as they are around £60 per year and a donor car is free (I think).

Does anyone have one just for KC, or have any thoughts?

Perfectly true, if we are unconceous wearing lenses it could be very bad for our eye sight.

In addition to a medic alert bracelet stating you have contact lenses, it also allows rapid access to the rest of your medical records too.

I have a medic alert bracelt and have just renewed it.

The ambulance service are trialing another scheme whereby you have a sticker in your front door window.

Then a pot in the fridge has any medication, information of your GP and any treatment you have rolled up inside.

On entering your home and seeing the sign on the door, they know to check the fridge for the pot to get extra information and so help you better and quicker.
