How do I get a new ophthalmologist

Postby bunnykins » Thu 14 Sep 2006 1:16 pm

Hi all

On my last visit to the hospital my ophthalmologist lost my lenses 3 times on his desk, ordered me the wrong set as he was looking at my notes from 3 years ago and got the left and right lenses mixed up. I was in there for over an hour when all I was doing was collecting a spare lens. i came away without the spare lens and don't know if i have the correct lenses in my eyes.

My ophthalmologist is getting on for 70 and often gets confused during visits. How do I get a new one?

Emma

Make a complaint highligthing these issues to the Eye Clinic, OR speak with your Doctor for another referal....depends I guess where you are being seen to!

If that was me, and this had happened to me...........I think Id have gone apesh*t...especially if that was the only lens I needed to perform and function in life!!

Hi J

It was my only set of lenses which he kept losing. At one point he was ready to send me off home not realising I only has one lens in and that he had the other. He has been very good over the years but has got gradually worse recently. Trouble is I can't remember how I got referred to the hospital. I think it was from a clinic in Manchester????

In the mean time I will speak to the eye clinic.

thanks for your response.

Emma,

Is the optomotrist actually at the hospital or a highstreet one?

If he is at the hospital he will be one of many optomotrists. If there are such issues with any member of staff at a hospital you will have to go through the hospital complaints procedure. Can be slow, but if he has such an affect on you what about the others he treats.

This will keep you stay within the current system and avoid dropping out and having a long wait again unless you go private which if like me is not an option.

Hi Gareth

It is a hospital and going private is definatley not an option. As far as I am aware there is just the one contact lens specialist but I will enquire.

a wee bit confused.

Emma Is the problem with an ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) or optometrist (the dude who prescribes lenses)?

If it is the former I'd puruse my complaint through my GP, MP and the hospital administration. If it is the latter I'd speak softly to the hospital eye clinic and ask firmly for a different optometrist.

I think it is an optometrist as he is fitting lenses, as suggested I would talk to the hospital and ask for someone else. Sweet X x X
