Started wearing lenses again

Postby Hamid » Sat 03 Jun 2006 3:10 pm

Thanks GarethB and Amarpal :)

I am glad for ur kind replies:),reading that u people wear lenses 12-15 hours a day has given me real confidence to start adapting n using lenses again, otherwise I had put them in the cupboard coz when ever I saw them I felt sever discomfort and feeling of lacking something. I will start wearing both lenses one hour a day and keep adding an hour a day to reach a full day wear..!

The optician gave me Boston made lenses after various repeated trials , initially I was suggested to wear one lens in right eye (which is mainly) affected but this proved to be very discomforting so I am given lenses for both eyes which I did not use regularly for even a single full month. The problems with wearing them are:

1.After an hour or so I feel sudden pain in right eye and feels that the lenses is not at right place or there is some dust particle came on eye, I try to keep the lens on my eye, use wetting drops, but sometimes the irritation is very strong and I put off the lenses.

2.The lens becomes more discomforting in exposure to sunlight so I always kept them in pocket, wore after reaching within office.

3.Driving while wearing lenses as I have motor bick, should I try using them when I have a helmet with plastic mirror.

Thanking in anticipation :)

Hamid, as for your irritation in your right eye, does this feeling of there being dirt or grit last for long? Or even after you have taken the lens out? This could maybe suggest a corneal abrasion if you do get continuous irritation as described, so check it out with an optician if it persists- I'm sure someone on the forum will be able to verify what I have said.

Light sensitivity is something that took me a while to get used to. Sunglasses help to a certain degree, but I find there is no real way of escaping it.

I wouldn't start wearing the lenses on your motorbike until you are more used to the lenses- its up to you though. Can you see well enough without the lenses?
Oh yeah, also don't try to keep your lenses in your eyes if you find them irritating- irritation is not a good sign, so its best to take them out and give the eyes a rest. All the best.

Hamid

I find it best not to put my lens in first thing in the morning, or they become dirty very quickly. I put them in just before I start work which is a couple of hours after I get up.

I've never been able to put mine in first thing. I usually put them in after 11 o'clock, then can keep them in all day.

I wear the soft lenses, when i was first given them i was fine for about 2 weeks, not a single problem, then one morning i was in agony, red eyes, discharge etc, went to the doctors and found i had an infection, basically i'd been wronglyadvised by the opt to use all-in-one solution (opti free),this wasn't cleaning my lenses very well at all so i after a couple of days of Genticin drops i went back to wearing my lenses but this time using oxysept cleaner.

For the first 2-3 years of lens wear i'd have good and bad days in rotation and even on good days i'd lose heart as my lenses would fog up after a few hours, eyes were dry, kept getting infections etc, then i went from the opt i was with to Ali Akay,he advised different things and in general reassured my that with time i'd adapt and know the warning signs of trouble etc.

Since then i've now had very little trouble with the actual wearing of lenses, only my visioon is now the problem, but problem wise i'd say i have a sore day around once every 6-8 weeks but other then that i literally can't feel the lenses,i put them in in 2 seconds flat and they settle instantly, lasting a 15-16 hour day with no real problems but i do need to use wetting drops late in the day or in smokey environments.

Basically i went back to the clinic over and over and over again until a good fitment was found, you may have been told your lenses are right for your eyes but that dont mean they are,it took me complaining and moaning and harrassing the clinic for more regulr appointments before i was given these current lenses,i thought i'd never win the comfort battle but i did,it was a hard slog but it payed of.

Now i'm starting a new battle with vision improvements, things can only get better as they say!

Hamid,go back and tell them you want more eye scans etc, demand action, don't give up mate, the right lens is out there,if you get no joy then ask for a second opinion.
Lock up your daughters.....

One side of picture is that i did not really and honestly tried to adapt to the lenses coz of my office work pressure and my studies as well, i simply got UPSET.... but now realising that this is the only solution to adapt my eyes to lenses i will fight this :)

i know that there would be problems and it will take time but i am really very motivated and happy to know that there are various other people having this problem nice enough to support and guide :):):)

thanks too all of you !

Hamid,

I have afew questions as well as suggestions/comments;

1) After an hour your lenses hurt; is is this after you have built the wear time up or as you are trying to build the wera time up?

If you are building the wear time up and you can only manage an hour, stick to this for a while. You are in a hotter and more humid country than the Uk so this might be making things harder, I believe from collegues at work who visit Asia that the cities are far dustier than the UK.

2) Sensitive to light; that is quite common with KC, many of us on a dull day in the UK wear very dark glasses so a good wrap round pair of sunglasses should help with that and may well help with reducing chances of dust getting under the lenses.

3) I used to race saloon cars and dust would gt under the lens and I found a full face crash helmet the best. As well as safety this style of helmet would cover the whole of the eyes and prevent dust getting in your eyes as you enjoy your bike.

Hope this helps.

Gareth
