Collagen Crosslinking

Postby Jan Miles » Sun 30 Apr 2006 9:32 pm

I thought that was bad enough. They said the treatment was £1,000 - i didnt realise it was per eye! I read something recently from austrialian news dot com where they are trialing the treatment. the equipment costs about $2500 and the B2 $1000, enough for 60 patients. Exciting prospect for KC sufferers.

While i was doing my research into the surgeon my dad was having treatment for cataracts - he asked his surgeon if he had heard of Mr Jory - and gave him rather a glowing report.

I do feel confident that ive made a good decision and definately feel that Mr Jory has taken a great deal of time assessing my eyes before making any firm comment. The worst bit so far was having to stagger around contact lens fee for two weeks. Work was fun, as i work with figures. House looked nice and tidy and my wrinkles seemed to have disappeared for a while anyway!!

I should add that Mr Jory said that i have keratoconus in one eye and polluted degenerative something or other in the other -they are similar but not the same. Both will respond well to c3r.

Ill report back once done.

Would that be Pellucid Marginal Degeneration? I've heard that term used as a synonym for KC, but I'm not aware of any specific differences... Can anyone shed any light?

Thank you both for that information. The link you posted fits what he told me. I should have asked him to write it down for me - not surprising i couldnt find anything about it before!

you're welcome, I have also been told that I have PMD, but in both eyes, there is some info out there but there is much more on KC than PMD.

Collagen Crosslinking

Jay,

I would just like to ask you whether your C3R treatment has had any affect on light sensitivity or ghosting? Also did you have to leave your lens out of the treated eye for a lengthy period? Im just wondering that if im lucky enough for this treatment to regress my cone at all, how im going to manage to get around without my lenses.

Jan

If you are having it done without the Epithelia removed than you should be ok. I was told, as far as I can recall, that I could wear a lens 2 weeks after.

I may have had a very little amount of increased light sensitivity and some slight pain for about 2-3 days but that was it.....and it wasnt anything a Nurofen didnt sort out.

But do bear in mind that the cornea will continue to change up to about the 3 month mark.....so you may need a good old few trips to the lens fitter?!

Here is a questions that perhaps the optoms may be better at answering;

Post C3R treatment how might a corneal contact lens sitting on the treated area affect the reshaping of the cornea as it heals?

Gareth

I just realised when you asked that; that it would be like KC increasing all over again!....Lol...you rem the feeling and sensation of the lens as the KC progresses!...and day by day the watering and blinking would get worse!........Dam!

Jay,

What I was thinking was if you have a lens that is to a specific cone shape and wear that post C3R, is there a chance the cornea would thicken in the shape of the cone the lens was moulded to? Therefore rather than KC progression , you only get a KC halt.

Will need to read through some of the research to see if there was any mention of who was and was not wearing lenses post treatment.
Gareth
