Well done Paul.
Do you not insure your contact lenses?

well done paul on getting a replacement lens in 3 1/2 days, mine take at least a week and to make your cost feel a bit better my last lens cost me £82
andrew i didn't realise you can still insure lenses nowadays, i had mine insured years ago but then that optician told me the insurance companies had stopped doing that kind of policy

I no longer wear lenses, but when I did, I had them insured as part of my household contents policy. In the event, the "excess" was more than the cost of replacing lenses provided under the NHS scheme (from memory this was never more than £45). It would ahve come itno its own if I lost both lenses at the same time.

I am a little out of date on this. caz used to insure her lenses but found that it was no longer possible. I had mine insured under the house contents policy, but never made a claim because my NHS lenses never cost more than £45 and the excess was £50 (although had I lost two then I'd have claimed)
All the best

My contact lens advised against a specialist policy as many are a rip off, so mine are actually coverd under thoe house insurance against loss and accidental damage.
Just like my mobile is.
Cost was no extra and as with any claim, as long as it is not due to my own stupidity I am OK.
Only ever had one claim on my home insurance and that was when my expensive camaera fell out of the back of the car because the strap got wrapped round a bag and I had not noticed. Camera was five years old and got replaced with a new item which was the nearest equivelent three times the price of the original when that was new and 10 times better.

Might be different her in Oz, but I have home insurance with accidental loss and damage. It costs a little more, but when my son lost his glasses, they replaced them, when he cleaned the tv while it was going with a full bottle of spray and wipe they replaced it. I think our policy is about $50-$100 more than the standard one, and we have a $100 excess, but with 3 little kids it has paid for itself. They will not cover damage to dvds or cds though.

A similar thing happened to me, only I was on a Caribbean cruise. I was washing my left lens and a small piece chipped off in my hand. I was walking around on the ship with one eye looking smaller than the other. Luckily I was going home in 2 days and I had a spare lens, but now I think I need to order another spare lens.
Off the subject has anyone else noticed how stretched the eyelids get and how much bigger they appear due to scleral lens, or is it just because I have small eyes?
