Re: May look like a donkey but it worked
I used to use protein removal tablets very rarely and certainly some optometrists did agree that with some of the newer cleaning solutions they weren't as necessary and they didn't complain about the state of my lenses. But for the last year I have been using the tablets much more frequently and tak...

Re: May look like a donkey but it worked
Hi Ian, There is a problem getting appointments at the hospital I attend. My current problem is that that my lenses now get covered with protein deposits. I was on six monthly check-ups for years and this was increased to nine months and then annually. In April last year my lenses were found to be i...

Re: May look like a donkey but it worked
Ian, I agree with Andrew I'd take myself to an emergency clinic. I know it seems a bit OTT but as an old-timer of contact lens wear you know when something's not right even if you don't know what's causing it. I guess you've tried the usual things such as leaving the lenses out for a few days (not t...

Re: New Sight Registration possibility for KC: Input needed
If only being fitted with contact lenses was that simple. I’ve had lenses that gave 6/6 vision in a test situation but because of the multiple images gave far less in practice and I’ve had lenses that were apparently a good fit but became intolerable after a few hours. But there have also been the l...

Re: New Sight Registration possibility for KC: Input needed
Lynn, Background I wear contact lenses about 15 hours a day and get very good vision with them. Unaided I can’t read the top line of the chart but with glasses I theoretically get 6/9 vision so even my corrected vision with glasses does not come into the above categories. However I have/have had iss...

Re: Private or NHS for Contact Lenses
Graeme,
The lenses I'm getting are corneo-scleral RGP lenses, not scleral lenses. When the optometrist mentioned a larger lens I too thought she was referring to scleral lenses. The corneo-scleral RGP lenses are about the same size as soft lenses but are rigid.

Re: Private or NHS for Contact Lenses
Don't worry Andrew there is a note in my diary to check that the lenses are in before I go to my next appointment in five weeks time. I was so looking forward to getting the new lenses tomorrow. When I tried the lenses two months ago the vision and comfort seemed really promising but the three moth ...

Re: Private or NHS for Contact Lenses
Graeme, The lenses I currently wear are a Jack Allen KC lens in the left and a Rose K2 in the right. The last pair of these lenses got to me in a week which must be a record as they have to go via the hospital. A few years ago lenses were taking a month to arrive. The new lenses are to be corneo-scl...

Re: Private or NHS for Contact Lenses
Andrew, The optometrist had ordered the lenses on the computer but some additional piece of paper from her was missing. Why a piece paper was required when the computer system must have an electronic signature I do not know! It might have been something to do with payment. I’m not paying for the len...

Re: Problems with Keratoconus and New Glasses
I’ve also got some glasses with a trapezium effect. I wear contact lenses most of the time but I do have two pairs of back-up glasses which give me some sight. The older pair aren’t much good at a distance (but a lot better than the naked eye) but I can use them for the computer and to read. The new...
