Re: 17 and worried!
Hi Gemma, I've had cross linking done fairly recently (my last op was exactly two weeks ago, but I've had 3 in the last year). Hi Clare. I'm assuming your first cross-linking wasn't successful then? Did you have 'epi-on' or 'epi-off'? I've read that a lot of 'epi-on' operations aren't particularly ...

Re: Is your KC mild, moderate advanced or severe?
I wonder if the 'corneal curvature' refers to the Kmax or the K average?
Either way, for me I would have 'moderate KC' for corneal curvature and 'early KC' for corneal thickness.

Re: 17 and worried!
Hi Gemma, Once you have the keratoconus diagnosis confirmed, I think the best thing to do is to speak to a consultant about having cross-linking done (either through the NHS in some areas, or privately if not). Keratoconus can cause problems, but if you can stop it progressing as early as possible (...

Re: What job do you do and how does keratoconus affect it?
I also work on computers all day and I've found it very difficult. I've had a lot of time off work, and like longhoc above I've also had to give up on the idea of doing my job full-time, at least for now. I'm still battling on, trying all kinds of different lenses with the aim of eliminating the sha...

Re: Crosslinking both eyes, 7 days apart
Not that its unexpected given the nature of the procedure, just there seems to be very little dialogue about just what's going on! That's certainly true! Different consultants seem to give different advice, which isn't particularly helpful! I think everybody responds to cross-linking differently, s...

Re: Corneal Haze from Cross-linking
Hi Prism,
I think it took about 3 months after the CXL for my vision to return to 'normal'. Whether this is the result of the 'haze' or not I'm not sure.
Regards,
James.

Re: Crosslinking both eyes, 7 days apart
Hi Prism,
I'd be surprised if 7 days apart became the 'standard'. I had my two cross-linking ops done 3 months apart, which I think is sensible as for me it took about 3 months for my vision to return fully back to 'normal'.

Re: CXL OPERATION
Hi Pam, Glad to hear it went well, must be a relief that the cross-linking is over! Regarding the improved vision, from my own experience, my prescription fluctuated a lot for many months after the CXL. Sometimes it would seem a lot better before revering back to 'normal'. I think you probably have ...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?
The Snellen test is a load of b****cks for KC. I completely agree. It's shocking that even optometrists who are generally very knowledgeable about KC, seem to over-rely on the Snellen chart when trying to understand how good or bad your vision is. I know I've tried to explain to various optometrist...

Re: Prescription changes after cross-linking
Hi Caroline, It's been over 6 months since I wrote the original post in this thread. I think for me it took many months before my eyes finally 'settled down' from CXL. The most frustrating thing is that my corrected vision in one of my eyes seemed to get a lot better, and then at the 9-month stage r...
