Re: Keratoconus friendly opticians
Just to clarify. I've now checked with Sophie (apologies, should have done that before) and it's still only the Hove branch that specialises in fitting KC eyes with all types of lenses. Additional contact details are - Tel: 01273 567475 Email: info@sclerallenscentre.co.uk Website http://www.sclerall...

Re: Keratoconus friendly opticians
Many thanks, Green. I knew Sophie had moved to Hove (she used to be part of a Harley St practice) but had no idea she now had all these branches. Many years ago I acted as a guinea pig when she was demonstrating fitting mini scleral lenses at a workshop so her interest and dedication to KC goes back...

Re: Keratoconus friendly opticians
Hi Woildeye and welcome, I think the main reason you haven't had a reply is because most of us get our contact lenses through a hospital eye clinic where the optometrists with an interest in fitting KC and other interesting eyes are concentrated. That also has the advantage of lenses at the NHS rate...

Do you have 3 or more close family members with KC?
Research into the genetics of KC is continuing. The genetic study which was the subject of Stephen Tuft's talk at our conference is looking for families with several members all diagnosed with KC. You'll find more details here https://www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/index.php/2022/10/26/do-you-have-fam...

The next steps in genetic research
This was the title of the talk given by Professor Stephen Tuft at our conference last month and you can find the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AAdy3Y9jZs We were delighted to welcome a face to face audience plus a live stream audience for our first conference since the pandemic. But fo...

Re: Late keratocnus diagnosis .. please help.
Driving at night was the first thing that went for me. Being able to read a number plate in daylight is no indication of how safe we are. So whether you're 'legal' or not, if you don't feel safe with the halos and glare and the reduced vision at twilight (all of which applied to me) then you're righ...

Re: Over 70s and DVLA
Thanks, Taylan, you beat me to it! Remarkably, the original changes were made seemingly without any consultation with optometrist or ophthalmologist professional bodies. So it looks as though questions from organisations like ours triggered AOP (the optometrists' professional body) to get involved. ...

Re: Late keratocnus diagnosis .. please help.
Hi Fatima and welcome, Please don't panic! KC is very variable between one individual and another, but any changes happen slowly over many months and years. If you've been getting reasonable vision with spectacles, then it sounds as though your KC is relatively mild. While most KC is diagnosed in th...

Re: Moorfields referral
As far as I know, you can either ask your Sidcup consultant to refer you, or do it through your GP. Though I suspect all hospitals are still struggling with COVID backlogs so you might have a wait to be seen. And it might be worth contacting PALS at Sidcup about the problems you're having there to s...
